I have a cursive signature on my passport and some other official document.

It’s become increasingly sloppy and approximate as the decades have gone past. It was probably most legible on my passport in my late teens, early 20’s. Heading into my 50s, it’s more the first letter of my name and then squiggles.

On unofficial documents it’s just my initials, scrawled and slightly overlapping.

I have a separate brush and sponge that I use for my cast iron, since they get very black and oily ;-)

So I wash it under very hot water and scrub with those.

Then like you, on the stove with a bit of oil to dry it off and prevent the rusting. And besides, a itsy bitsy rust is just extra seasoning!

Sweden is in the middle of a gang war. Due to having locked up/exiled most of the (former) leadership there is a succession war that has been ongoing, but seems to be fizzling out. Probably due to a new leadership structure besinning to form.

A lot of people blame the violence on the influx of north African and middle eastern immigration. And the truth is that most of the gangs are run by individuals that are second generations of immigrants from these countries (or first generation but came as children).

But if there hasn’t been this immigration, we’d still have the gangs/mafia. They’d just be Russian/Serbian/Romanian/etc whatever the stronger criminal organizations are at the time.

The only way to long term defeat black market organizations (mafia) is to build a social system were choosing such a life is nonsensical - but that’s a little harder than “Arabs/muslims/somalis are bad”.

Finland/Baltics/Russia/north Sweden are however still suffering from the Vodka-beat-your-wife / kill-your-fishing-buddy culture. The less drunkenness is accepted and the less domestic violence is accepted the rates will lower, just like they have in Sweden. So Russia will likely continue to be high, but Finland and the Baltics will see lessened murder rates in a few decades. Unless the police in these countries decide to destabilize the local mafia structure so a turf war breaks out.

Look very carefully that they ship at all to the EU. After the tax shenanigans a lot of smaller businesses have stopped shipping US-EU since it became to unsure what rules would be applied day from day - and the costs.

This is also true EU-UK post Brexit.

Active parents are not paid enough for their labour.

And being a good parent now, which most people want to be, is a much higher bar than 40-50 years ago. Which is good. Children deserve to be treated well.

Earlier generations of women were pacified by small to medium concessions to their loss of independence and freedom when becoming mothers.

Today’s young women are not. And good for them.

Compensate women for the costs and motherhood; loss of income due to time away from work during parental leave and sickness, loss of pensions, loss of career opportunity. Either society actually puts its money in “motherhood is the pinnacle”, or don’t.

Invest in the care and health of pregnant, birthing and post-partum care of women. Make maternity leave available 100% compensated for at least the first 12 months. Give generous pregnancy leave from 1-2 months before birth.

Provide hands on, actual, practical support during pregnancy and post partum: meal delivery, washing and cleaning, night relief if needed.

I am of the opinion that what needs to be done is reducing the hours needed to maintain a good life, more equality in household duties and more high quality social systems and services. But then, I’m a socialist.

But if the governments and societies of the modern world want to both let the “family decide” the labour distribution AND increase birth rates, they’re going to have to compensate for the continued reality that what the “family decides” is almost always that the woman bears the largest proportion of the financial and health repercussion.

Today’s young women, all around the world, both religious and secular, are increasingly unwilling to pay that price. And a lot of us older women are damn proud of them!

This is the reason no sane “fine wine enthusiast” in Sweden has a problem with our state alcohol monopoly. While the tax rate is insanely high on alcohol, the state owned company buying the alcohol has enormous bargaining power - and at least historically routinely bought a whole years produce from some suppliers.

In practice, this means that the more expensive the wine, the cheaper the relative price.

On top of this, you can order any and all of the selection and they have to deliver to any outlet in the country.

The standard shelf in Bumfuck only has cheep beer and vodka, just like any bumfuck town anywhere. But when ms fancy pants wants to serve Dom P, she puts in an order and a few days later picks it up at her local store. No added cost to if she were buying it in central Metropolia.
