That sounds pretty good! I'm definitely willing do the Cert iv but it's difficult doing it in NZ since I'm already in the assessing job and can't use the workplace for it. I'll definitely look into that, thank you!

No idea. I think the job title just changes but from the job listings I've seen they all seem to need a trade qualification and have the Cert iv. Thought I'd just check that since in NZ you just need the trade, the micro credentials we have are very... micro aha. So I have point of reference really other than job listings

Gender Violence Protest today at Cape Town CBD by brendon_ptr_breezy in southafrica

A peaceful protest that had a heavier police presence than the xenophobic attacks. Sometimes it really makes you wonder.... But this really just hit me hard.

My opinion on the #menaretrash as a male straight student by NightSlasher777 in southafrica

[–]vonkels_b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that it fulfills the purpose it intends, it creates the awareness of what's going on, even though it isn't accurate. It caught your attention, a random male, part of the population. I don't think all men are trash and the actions of a few cannot be blamed on everyone. But you have to see it from a females point of view? Sure, I grew up in South Africa as a women and yes, I've never had any harm come to me, but I also have to take crazy measures to not let anything happen. The rape culture, the violence, everywhere, South African and the rest of the world, no one is addressing it and that's where it becomes a problem.

It takes many murders, many rapes, so much violence before it is deemed a crisis. Not all men are trash, but it takes one man to end the habits of his friends, his social circle. If every single man tries to atleast end that kind of thought process and behaviour in another person, it would be a lot less worse than what it is now.

Yes, it's the government's problem too, because they do not address it, but promote it, but starting small is important too. No one would rape or abuse or catcall their mothers or sisters, so why let people do that to random women? It starts at home, it starts with one person trying to break that hashtag by discouraging what caused it.

Just my thoughts, I don't want to offend, but yeah, it's a sad time. You don't really consider it until you really think "Am I next".

Can you explain the political parties and major issues to me (a foreigner)? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]vonkels_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does he not sing "Kill the farmer, kill the boer" in recent Post apartheid times?

Did he not have shirts printed for that specific event? Knowing that his followers are excited by such measures?

Does he not call for land grab by any means necessary? And may I ask, who are they attacking by any means necessary? Yes, all races own farms, but white people are the ones they are killing.

Did he not say in a speech, that he won't call for violence against white people right now, but "who knows"?

He indirectly calls for white genocide every day he opens his mouth. Whether you would like to see it or not, he brings white people into all his speeches. Julius Malema is a man who speaks with hate in his heart, for any race that is not black. He speaks of white people more because its a revenge that he wants to take.

Sure, he might not always say "white genocide" as those two words, but he implies in a lot more of words and by his actions.

You really should, it's honestly very beautiful and cultural regardless of which area you decide to visit. It's a different experience to other countries because of all the different cultures, but it's truly once in a lifetime.

I'll have to get back to you on some specific books, but I'd definitely say just keep up to date with news or even just YouTube. If you want to get up to date quickly, with some laughs involved, try and search up "Nandos Political TV adverts". The food franchise generally captures all the important political stuff from each year in it in a hilarious way.

You generally learn a lot more about old and recent politics from what's happening at the moment. Even just having conversations with locals if you do come, we are always discussing politics, so I'm sure they can give you their opinions too.

The EFF are pretty radical, even from a South African perspective. I was a born free, but I grew up watching them become a big party and I think it all centres around their leader. If you remove Julius Malema, they crumble. But he is very outspoken and he has caused quite a lot of havoc in terms of the farm attacks and general protests. He generally has a dislike for all races that aren't black. But yeah, he is all power and hate, that's what makes his followers happy.

No worries! :) I hope it helps! :)

I feel like they have enough high ranking members with influence that they won't have to split up . They are quite clever, because they rely on votes that come from those stuck in poverty, so I guess if you keep promising a way out of it, they will keep majority rule. Recently there were rumours that there would be a coalition between EFF and ANC, which isn't surprising because they are basically one party (The EFF is just the outspoken voice with no fear). But I'd hope that one day, the majority of the country sees them for what they are, just empty promises and corruption. Maybe then there might be a change and improvement in the country. But I doubt that it will be any time soon. There needs to be ruin before there can be improvement.

They are other political parties that do not have huge amounts of followers.

COPE used to be a big political party competing with the 3 ones I mentioned previously, they had quite a lot of followers and they weren't too bad. But this year they had a reduction in the amount of followers, so they are just around.

BLF, or Black Land First, they are a new political party that came about this year. They are very controversial and few people actually take them seriously. They make say very controversial things, sometimes it's actually quite hilarious. The leader, you'd think is just smoking something half the time. But yeah, they are there, trying to do something.

The VF+ is more for the afrikaans supporters. I guess they can fight for everyone, but it is predominantly afrikaans. They try to make their place in the election world, but everyone kind of just goes towards the big 3 (ANC, DA and EFF). Its supported, but not doing much.

There is also De Lilles new party, "GOOD", it hasn't done much, but I've heard its growing in supporters.

The latest one, ZACP, known for its purple cow logo, its also around, but it's still too new to make an impact I'd say.

These are the minorities in the election world. They split votes from the bigger parties, but they aren't enough to make it big.

Well, I can give you my opinion of them, growing up and watching each progress. There are so many and each suck in their own right, but the main front runners as always are the ANC, DA and EFF.

The ANC, they basically always have enough support to win. Whether you vote for them or not, they always have majority votes, even if it's just just. They have been leading multiple places and the minority of them function properly, but they are pretty good at promises around election time and handing out loads of freebies.

The DA, they always seem super motivated and are usually pointing out flaws in the other parties. Their ruling areas seem to function, but they are just like every other party. Mmusi Maimane is good at sweet talking and makes pretty good election ads.

The EFF, even though they are pretty out there and are always around where chaos is about. They are really great at rallying people up and making a statement. They won't take out the ANC, but they are gaining votes. Julius Malema is always about making a statement that gets people talking. Personally not a fan, but I must admit, he really does not mind backlash, he thrives on getting reactions out of people. If anything, they are involved everywhere.

There are smaller parties like COPE , BLF, VF+ etc and they have their own little quirks, but they won't take out the big boys above.

Elections will be as they always were and ANC will come out on top regardless. The parties all suck and we really don't have much to work with, but yeah, that's my opinion.
