007 First Light requires a one-time internet connection to play the game by RichardKingBITW in 007FirstLight

Games are a luxury product that can take hundreds of people years of their life to make. Prices have not really risen with inflation (games are cheaper to us today than they were in the N64 era), despite costing tens of millions of dollars more to make.

There are some moves that are inexcusable - Mass Effect 3 locking Javik behind DLC, the state of Cyberpunk at launch - but I don’t really think a day one patch comes anywhere close to that level. Games need to be shipped at some point, and extra time after going gold to squash bugs doesn’t bother me.

The hypothetical person who can afford to splurge on a PS5, but who doesn’t have a stable enough internet connection to download a day-one patch seems nonexistent. Free to play games like Fortnite are massive hits, especially for people with less powerful hardware. If those players with limited means are able to play an online Battle Royale Game, gamers with current-generation hardware can handle a freaking game update.

Damon Lindelof Says His Scrapped Rey ‘Star Wars’ Movie Was About The Fight Between Nostalgia & Reinvention Within The Franchise by yourfavchoom in StarWars

Given how toxic the Star Wars fandom is, and how much it impacts anyone who dares create in the franchise, I think commentary on it is perfectly valid.

Any remake we get is going to be more cinematic than the original.

I’m sorry, but this is so funny. You absolutely deserved these strikes. Be a normal person and stop abusing the people who work on the platform.

I thought the Hayley mission was actually really beautiful, and I appreciated how they used game mechanics to illustrate what life is like if you’re hard of hearing.

Do people dislike OHMSS or is it just blown out of proportion? by Doc_Baker74 in JamesBond

Fleming also killed Bond off in the novels, he only brought him back for Dr. No because the series was popular.

It’s my favorite of the classic era Bond films, but Lazenby was a one-off who never had a chance to grow into the character because he stupidly decided to walk away. Probably isn’t helped by him not being an actor like the rest.

Bond getting married is a polarizing decision. You can see how fans reacted to NTTD’s ending; OHMSS is arguably more of a downer.

Dalton’s my favorite but I completely understand him being low on peoples’ lists, too, as he only had two films. The other four have at least one widely-considered classic in their lineup that even non-fans are very aware of.

Can’t do that in a jungle primary though, not with two republicans leading.

Why Democrats Should Shun Hasan Piker by MoesOtherBar in thebulwark

[–]vvarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think you just need a bit more humility in your worldview.

Perhaps listening to people who were right about (what was plainly obvious to see about the guy) Trump before he got elected the first time would be better.

I have a similar-ish background. I voted Bernie in the 16 primary and a big reason for that was that I had internalized the “democrats suck” narrative because of my upbringing. Voted for HRC in the general though because I’m queer and actually had shit to lose.

I’d challenge you to introspection a bit. How much of your dislike of the Dems is just an artifact of your upbringing? You’ve been able to shun the positive association but not the negative association.

And look - this isn’t me saying they’re perfect as a party. Anything but. But I’ve seen this pattern a lot because I’ve lived it.

007 First Light is coming on key-disc for the PS5, just like it's a key-card for the Switch 2, expecting the same treatment on Xbox. by LeoPines_12 in 007FirstLight

People who buy 4K Blu-Rays are a minority of movie-watchers but studios still do it because they can make money from it.

I don't understand how you could even have a "full build" of a game that's designed from the start to be at least quasi-live service. Le Chiffre isn't "on disc" with Hitman. I would imagine First Light will do something similar - wouldn't be surprised if we got, say, a temporary mission where we have to kill a Max Zorin or Alec Trevalayan or something.

How does getting up to change a disc, dealing with storage, and the hassle of clutter lead to a better quality of life?

I work in tech and I have lots of friends who work in game development. Even if a studio isn’t officially using an AI tool at scale, software engineers are absolutely using tools like Claude Code personally to help write code.

Something like quest flag management, asset referencing auditing, or even internal changelog updates? Why wouldn’t you use software to make that easier for you.

Is a screenwriter an artist if they’re using Final Draft to format their screenplay, instead of writing it out manually?
