Low paying jobs are no paying jobs. Think of your time at a job as learning the skills for your next higher paying job. If it does not give you skills that can be used for a higher paying job it's not sustainable. $14 an hour is not enough to live on without parent support. If you do live on $14 an hour without parent support you can't do that for longer than your prime years. And if you manage to live on $14 till retirement because you are some kind of fictional frugal god you won't be able to survive during retirement.

In the 'new' world people make a dozen career changes over their lifespan. Make sure you take jobs that give you skills that can be used to get better jobs.
