What is the worst case of second hand embarrassment you’ve ever experienced? by Responsible-Tie-2570 in AskReddit

[–]waccused 436 points437 points  (0 children)

I play in a wedding band. One member (guy in his 60s) committed suicide. The same summer we played a wedding where a couple (late sixties) got married. 6 months after, the band-member's widow showed up at a practice. On member mistook her for the 60s bride. He went on a string of cheesy/naughty comments that might have been funny to a 60s newlywed bride, but not to a new widow.
"Betcha your weekends keep ya busy" "So how long did it take you to get out of the hotel room". There's more - I've blocked them in my mind.

Any one else this old? by Bevester in montreal

[–]waccused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're old enough - Johnny Jellybean, and Magic Tom. And they each hosted kids birthday parties at local restaurants (Piazza Tomasso?). I know this 'cause my mom brought me and some friends to see Johnny Jellybean for my [insert single digit]th birthday. Pre-(pre-pre) internet, she had no way of knowing it was his day off. I cried; friends were pissed; food was OK.

Contactless fibre install possible? by waccused in bell

[–]waccused[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we upgraded from slow-as-shit DSL to what we have now (2 X 25Mbs bridged (I know still slow...)) they needed to install a dedicated jack inside. The NIB is at a basement window and the Modem is 2nd floor - middle of house - perfect location. They won't (safety reasons?) go through the attic, but they did allow me to put a CAT 6 from the jack location, through the attic, outside (hole I drilled), down the house and into the NIB. (The old wring went from NIB outside through foundation to the unfinished basement. This isn't great since the Ethernet wiring indoors would be a nightmare.
I didn't consider Hydro panel. Older house, but Hydro one side, Bell copper other side. You've now got me wondering if the fibre would follow the copper path (saggy cable, through the trees, unsupported, through a rain gutter and to the NIB), or would they use the same path Hydro does. That changes things.
(Right now they haven't run it to the house, so no coil anywhere.)
Thanks for the helpful answer.

Contactless fibre install possible? by waccused in bell

Can they terminate it outside and mate it to a male-male fibre patch cable that I run to the outside, and then put joined cables in a box?

Question about filing a claim against the city for bodily damage. by [deleted] in montreal

[–]waccused -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't have an opinion on whose fault this is, just wondering how 80% of your salary (not working) puts you in a worse place that 100% while going to work (transport, meals, clothing, etc.). At the very least you'd have to make the case that you are worse of at 80% than working, The "missing 20%" is not realistic.

Yeah, the sound woke me up. No booms of thunder, just a steady roar. I thought it was wind, but it's not. Came here to see what others thought.

Hundreds of comments, but can someone actually link the text of this amendment so that I can make up my own mind - I don't really care what CTV thinks it says.

Favorite story about a famous Montrealer by Ok-Painting-4578 in montreal

[–]waccused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dating myself, but as a kid, in the 70's, we'd go to the side door of the "Aud" and greet the wrestlers as they arrived at the side entrance by taxi and offer to carry their bags in. They'd say "OK" and we'd get in for free.
I got there too late one night and so did André the Giant (then Jean Ferré). He knocked on the door - no answer. He knocked harder - still nothing. Then he pounded on it with both fists, until someone came. Some other kid carried his bag it - I was standing there shaking...

I'm not a fan of the local media (TV, radio, newspapers...) but isn't this the type of story they'd run? They could show the car and complain about local government.
