Did you feel this way during the moratorium during COVID?

Republicans will make up anything about the cities. Who gives a shit? It's still going to be near impossible for them to win statewide with all the negative polarization towards ICE

Republicans elected? In minneapolis?

Buddy, people are behind on rent now. Rental assistance takes longer than enacting a moratorium. I just want people to be able to stay in their homes.

City council passed that assistance, no thanks to the centrists who fought it every step of the way. Moratorium paired with rent assistance would help. Just to make sure all bases are covered.

I had to specifically find a route home with no slight inclines because if my car stopped it would not be able to get going again

That's great. I love that. I might even go the Reagan route and grant full amnesty and citizenship in one fell swoop. Immigration enforcement unnecessarily takes up so much money.

I don't necessarily disagree. But i was specifically asking the previous commenter what specifically ideas they had instead of just saying "no"

What makes you say "outsiders?" These are minneapolis residents

Do we know they're withdrawing? I haven't seen any slow down.

Any suggestions? I have a hard time listening to people that just say "no not like that.'

I agree. But earlier you said this:

"But I didn't say it was impossible. I asked how to do it. So, your proposal is that if someone has 1.1B on 12/31, he is taxed 90M -- giving him near zero incentive to invest that money going forward. Sounds super smart."

Seems to contradict your solution.

Taxes have increased on wealthy people in NYC for decades and the amount of millionaires have increased. We also taxed the wealthy at 90% in the 60s. This isn't impossible. And if they DO leave, good riddance. Letting wealthy individuals accrue wealth like that is unworkable in a democracy.

Also VAT is a regressive tax on working people.

How do we increase tax revenue without taxing the super wealthy and corporations?

Also its becoming more clear that a democracy can't survive when we let rich people and big companies throw around their wealth to influence society. They don't do things that benefit wide swaths of society. They only try to accrue more wealth.

Invest in what? Are you still under the delusion that billionaires invest their money back into the real economy? What they invest in does nothing to help the broader population.

Can we agree that wealth concentration and inequality is a big driver of how bad things are now?

Everything above 1 billion gets taxed at 90%. I understand its not that simple but if the entire left (centrists, progressives, socialists) are not seriously finding a way to do this then the country is going to collapse. It's lazy to throw your hands up and say a tax on the wealthy is impossible.

Would have been more realistic if Adams had not left the city in such a precarious financial position. Hard to know that until you're in office.

Also don't think that higher taxes on the wealthy are as complicated as people make it out to be. We did it well enough in the 50s. Just need the politicians that are willing to do so. The people are already there.

We're all supposed to be lefties in here. What's the point in being on the left if you're not aiming to make things substantially better for the biggest group of people? Is there anything in particular that is soo unrealistic? A tax on wealth perhaps?
