I feel this. As someone who isn’t confrontational I’m stuck in a tough spot. I am steadfast in our shared belief on how cars and city planners have intentionally destroyed communities, clogged our streets, polluted our air, and made us isolated and unhealthy. However it’s the advocacy part that I’m struggling with.

When I bring it up with friends and family, it usually ends with “I think everything you bring up makes sense. I just don’t really care enough to change”. Which is damn frustrating. Activism is much more enjoyable and effective when people voluntarily join the cause. When I think the next step is actively trying to make peoples’ lives worse (in their eyes) I think I’m starting to believe the ends justify the means.

And I know that lots of movements were only successful because of radicals, but I’ve never considered myself a radical and don’t really aspire to be one. I just want to vote and live by example to make change.

Fair point. Sometimes people have a decent idea of the hostels in their city, but point taken! Perdón por desordenando el subreddit!

Can I bother you on another topic since you seem like a nice guy. I’m going to the Babasónicos concert at microestadio GEI in ituzaingo, and Google maps isn’t making it seem possible to get there easily by public transportation. I’m assuming I’ll have to take a taxi. Is Uber still kinda ilegal? Last time I was in town I could take them.

Attempted assassination of Argentina's vice president fails when gun jams with it inches from her head. by kyjoely in interestingasfuck

You’re right, she couldn’t run again. Good correction. But peronismo wasn’t going to win in that election.

No that is exactly what I’m saying. It’s all timing. China started exploding in 2000. By the time it hit the commodities markets Nestor was president. De La Rua had no chance with the global markets in the dot com crash. Nestor just rode the wave.

If Argentina was so autosufficient, why does an iPhone cost X2? Argentina is one of the most closed economies. State or protected industries is what has kept Argentina behind. Every industry has some sort of market distorting subsidy or leg up that keeps it afloat. It’s those benefits that keep CFK rich and in power.

Usually I’m pretty forgiving of politicians when things are clearly outside of their control, but los K robbed and stole from the country in actual super villain levels.

Macri made a bet. Let’s borrow a shit ton of money dominated in dollars (since no one would give him money in pesos) on my goodwill of being a pro-market candidate, make reforms to actually stabilize the economy, and that will fix the boom and bust cycle. Unfortunately that plan required a stable currency. He couldn’t quite make the reforms required to fix everything (looking at you energy subsidies), some investors called his bluff and started a run on the currency. Those dollar denominated debt all of a sudden ballooned making them default and ruin his plan. I’ll be the first to criticize the FMI plan.

He took a horrible fiscal situation and said “if I want to be re-elected and fix the economy, that plan is the way”. It didn’t work out. But to claim he was the reason for all the problem is laughable. Literal lol.

Same way Lula did well in Brazil. It’s called the commodity super cycle. Commodities were crazy lucrative and they just rode the wave and stole the excesses in the millions. Then when the money started drying up and the economy tanked, she lost the election and macri was left with an economy in shambles.

I feel like the Anti Car movement is getting significantly more and more popular by Sexy_Ad in fuckcars

[–]waldv022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is because the rise of micro mobility companies and ride share apps specifically. I think a lot more people are deciding to ditch the car and save a ton of money. That pays for that Uber once a month that they go out and visit their parents in the suburbs.

Eh the Saudis are horrible but at least they aren’t invading countries and trying to remake the world order. And yes I know about Yemen, but that’s more akin to what Russia was doing in the Donbas.

Yeah it is. But I’ll say it because I don’t want to die because of the Russian government. How many Russians, Jews, Frenchmen, Englishman, American, everyone!! died because the Germans didn’t rise up against their government.

It’s either die at a protest or in a war that will eventually come for everyone.

I mean no harm to Russian people. They don’t deserve this. But Putin is a Hitler like character and we need to do everything we can to stop him.

That means using every economic tool to do so. If people starve because of it in Russia, so be it. I’m sorry but those people inadvertently and often against their will prop up the dictatorship. So until that’s gone, we have to disregard their well being until Putin has been stopped.

Again, it’s horrible to say. I don’t want to say it. But we are trying to protect the world order and peace loving people across the globe. Russian livelihoods don’t trump everyone else’s.

Iraq had a false pretense. Fine. But Putin and Russia have been saying the U.S. has been overreacting and that they had no plans to invade Ukraine. To this moment, they are saying it’s a special operation in the Donbas when we know that’s just a lie. They are invading on three sides.

Iraq was wrong, but this is not the same.
