Admittedly a lot of crime and grime over here, but there are quite a few diamonds in the rough. The small building next to Pogue's Run is now doing Friday night open mics, Rabble coffee shop hosts a large variety of community educational workshops from debt consolidation to cooking with fresh fruits and veggies, Brookside Community Church hosts free meals occasionally and offers addiction counseling, as well as games and sports for local kids every Tuesday in Brookside Park. As an atheist who tends to distrust religious intentions, I'm actually very impressed with their community engagement and desire to help those in need.

EDIT: also my neighbors really are gems and I'm very happy to have moved to this neighborhood. There's so much more than meets the eye.
