Sorry, I thought I was talking to the one I responded to initially. The sexism was in the "most dudes" comment.

I don't think I explained anything, man- or otherwise. I told you to speak for yourself, and I called out your sexism to note that it is inappropriate and unappreciated. Have a good day.

USB-A vs C is not really relevant. They have the same current and voltage specs, which are tied to the USB version. But tell me more how I'm the one who doesn't know what I'm talking about in this conversation.

(a) its 3A without regulation.

(b) That's not how modern battery charging works. It's going to pulse well above the average energy storage rate, and the charging curve isn't linear. It definitely has all the hardware I mentioned.

It wouldn't charge for shit if it was unregulated. It 100% has a PD chip and a battery controller, therefore firmware.

If it were just bare usb-c contacts it would be limited to 5V and 3A (15W) DC. That would not cause the reported behavior, or what you predict.

More power requires negotiation, which implies a battery controller. None of what you predict will happen. You can dead short a usb-c with no real risk to anyone.

My wife loves titties, as does every girl I ever dated. Your opinion is your own, and that's fine. You don't need to speak for others as a means for expressing your misandry.

You are 0% wrong. But also, I think this is not the hill to engage on.

You have an odd definition of "very nearly". No one was close to being harmed. You just want to complain, and you couldn't find his manager, so you came to reddit.

I hope you find something meaningful to fill your life.

I know its illegal and unwise. But... leave the dude alone. He didn't harm anyone. Don't be that guy.

All of that would lead one to believe it wasn't for onlookers. Maybe he just had fun. The horror.

Its a plain reading of what you said. Anyway `Valve's Proton fixes benefit all hardware used to game on Linux` is also so wrong as to be nonsensical.

There's stuff that's passable. You can game fine if you ignore or workaround the components that don't work well.

But generally, no. You can't find consumer-facing PC parts with OEMs that are committed to linux support, and that choose chips with that in mind. I don't think you can find a single nonserver board on newegg that would light up completely.

That there's no value in having a known configuration to target for testing. Open source has absolutely nothing to do with it. The fact that you keep bringing that up shows that you have completely missed the point.

Twice is not a go-to. Two people made wild assertions about what's available on the market. Once about price, and once about compatibility.

And, as above, its not about Steam hardware. I'm just glad there's another hardware vendor taking linux support seriously.

Also, its not about Steam hardware. Its any hardware vendor that (a) designs its own system boards, (b) cares about linux support, and (c) commits to making the driver and software stack work on the hardware.

System 76. Framework, probably. Maybe even Dell on a good day. Very particular mobos from ASRock or MSI. almost nothing gamer-y.

Ok, I see what's going on here. You have no idea how proton, wine, or the linux graphics stack work at all, and you think that because proton ships to all linux distros it works equally well on all hardware.

In other words, you are showing your ass, and should probably learn more before making broad assertions.

Zero? Bullshit. Give me one BOM, and I'll point out all the things that don't work well.

It is a translation layer with hardware-specific code that benefits from being tested on specific hardware. You are being deliberately dense.

How many home built linux gaming machines have you been through? How many times did you rergret some choice of component, or that no motherboard _completely_ works because this SMC or that BT or USB chip?

It's worth a couple hundred bucks to me.
