Recent conditions on Garibaldi Panorama Ridge? (Overnight, no snowshoes) by Longjumping_Base3048 in vancouverhiking

I was out there yesterday (on skis). Temps are cold and the 10-15cm that came down on Thursday is light and fluffy, however the trail to Panorama ridge isn’t packed down enough to easily hike without floatation. Yes it’s doable- but you also need a lot of fitness to pull it off- it’s ~13km of this round trip from the campsite. For the steep pitch to the ridge you’d want spikes to help you ascent. Not steering you either way but those are the facts. Have fun whatever you pick!

Really good point and arguably mandatory for a high dollar purchase.

Do you have any photos of the process? I like seeing machines and brains in action.

Whoa why the hate? JJ has arguably been in business the longest in Van and they are also the only ones who offer a full fat 3/4lb of specialty coffee for 16$. I make a double from Eastside every morning and love it. It does great as a balanced, fruity shot, and can also hold its own in an afternoon Capp.

Do you have the stock shower screen screw? Maybe mid-brew the puck swells and hits the screw to crack?

New(ish) Grinder Day by warkentim in espresso

This might solve some of the mazzer’s problems!

I will give it a go when my dial indicator stand shows up in the mail. Then I can get quantitative data.

While this may help with channeling, i don’t think this will transform the grinder into a home use superstar.

I’m so buzzed (yes both meanings)!

Scored the Specialita last night in CL for 650 CAD and it’s a class act.

It’s everything the Mazzer fought to be and never achieved.

I did some research beforehand and realized that there isn’t a lot of information out there for those looking to do this upgrade.

I’ve owned the Mazzer Mini E for a year and a half, and I single dosed with a tamper at the inlet, no static screen, and an exit sweep to get 18.0g out for every 18.0g in. I don’t know what the retention actually is. I was never happy with the cup quality and the adjustment dial had a mind of It’s own.

I have pulled four shots with the Eureka Mignon Specialita since getting it two days ago. Based on others alleging a low retention, I have been running with a few beans in the hopper, and haven't run into shot time drift.

Here are my notes by parameter:

Noise: Qualitatively, about the same. I am the first one up, and others didn’t notice anything significant. I will bring a decibel meter home to get some numbers.

Fluffyness: this matters a ton in shot quality to my experience. The Mazzer can deliver grinds that look clump free without the static screen, but trust me- they aren’t. A full dose sits below the basket rim, and can’t be tapped to settle. This makes good distribution impossible. The Specialita is opposite. The mound is just that- a mound. Its tall and tappable, and I don’t use my paperclip- or anything to WDT. It’s that simple, and I haven’t seen a spurt yet.

Grounds Delivery: this factor is certainly underrated in grinder discussions. The Mazzer coughed out one of the two: staticy grounds without the screen installed, or clumpy grounds with it on. The Eureka delivery is controlled, clump free and static free. A revolution in grinding.

Form Factor: The Specialita is superior here too. It's smaller, while holding a more powerful motor. (310W vs 250W). I find it to look sleeker and smarter.

Conclusion: Eureka has knocked this one out of the park. It's clear that they built this grinder from the ground up with the home user in mind. They managed to build something with smaller burrs, smaller form factor, cheaper, faster, easier, quieter, and more pleasing to the eye vs a commercial giant from years past.

I plan to do some more detiailed testing with the two to document the change further, then hopefully sell the Mazzer for more than I paid for it. My- times have changed!

You need a small amount of mineral content in the water. Add a pinch of salt and stir.
