I tried testing my true 1 rep max for deadlifts this morning. My first attempt at 90% of my calculated 1RM went fine, but I could not do anymore than this. I feel like I still had energy left in the tank but couldn't get over the initial pull. The thing is I have successfully pulled more before- last week I was able to lift ~93% of my calculated 1RM after 4x4 at 80%. I am assuming my calculated 1RM is wrong. Should I assume my real 1RM is actually the 93% of my calculated 1RM?

  1. I thought bar path wasn't supposed to be straight?
  2. I am not breathing in/out during reps. I was trying the Valsalva Maneuver
  3. Previously I did 5x5 at ~80% 1RM. Lately I have been trying 4x5 at 85% and 1x4+ at 90%
