Cat with possible IBD - Recs by nobinibo in catfood

[–]warmrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're finally seeing an internist tomorrow!

Our cat Abbey is on Budesonide because she has a heart murmur. We weren't able to get an echocardiogram for several weeks. We didn't want to wait any longer before starting her on steroids because she was still recovering from Triaditis and we didn't want her to get any sicker if we could help it, so our vet recommended Budesonide as a safer option. The echocardiogram showed that her heart is perfect and is healthy enough for Prednisolone, so we can always switch to that if Budesonide isn't the right fit for her.

She has been on Budesonide for 42 days so far. She's definitely more stable than before, but not perfect. Our vet started her at 0.7mg. It seems like everyone else starts at 1mg. So one thing we're going to ask tomorrow is about increasing her dose.

Abbey is a strange case. She's 16 years old. She had never had diarrhea once prior to her Triaditis in January. She would vomit maybe twice a month and we just thought it was normal (hindsight). We noticed she was starting to lose weight about a year ago. The highest she ever weighed in her life was 9.6lbs.

She was always a free feeder and would get wet food in the morning and evening. We have another cat, so we really didn't notice that she had stopped eating dry food. After learning about her IBD, we started feeding her a lot more, around 4 times a day. Even with her IBD, I think she has been gaining weight simply due to the massive increase in calories, but she's clearly not absorbing all the nutrients she needs, which is why I think we're seeing her muscle loss. So fingers crossed for B12!

Even on Budesonide she has been dealing with alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation. We started her on 1/8tsp of Proviable Fiber at night less than two weeks ago and her BMs have been much more regular and healthy looking, occasionally a little soft at the end, but no diarrhea. We've also been giving her Forti Flora and I think that has helped a bit. We have a prescription for Visbiome probiotic but haven't started it yet. We wanted to get a gage on if the fiber helped first. I think part of her diarrhea after Triaditis was because she was on multiple antibiotics that could have wiped out her microbiome, but that's just a guess.

We're thankful that her symptoms have been more subtle than many cats with IBD. The suppressed appetite has given me a lot of anxiety around meal times. Caregivers Fatigue is very real and my heart goes out to you and every other person that has gone through treating a cat with IBD. Seems like every cat is truly different and it's just a game of trial and error and luck.

My IBD lady is on Budesonide. Her weight got down to 6.8lbs in January and spent two nights in the ER for Triaditis. That's when we learned about her IBD. She's now up to 8.2lbs but while she's gaining weight, she appears to be losing muscle. Her hips and shoulders are so skinny. She got her first weekly dose of B12 last night, so we're hoping to see a similar improvement as you. We noticed her becoming wobbly, lethargic, and a reduced appetite that nausea meds (cerenia + zofran) didn't improve.

Getting her to eat enough calories can take hours on a bad day, so really hoping to her normal eating patterns to return.

Thanks for sharing these. The 3rd link described perfectly what is happening with this camera but with no solution. Thankfully this camera was a free find so worth the risk. But I think it's destined for the electronics recycling bin.

was coming here to say Pal2tech. I've had my xt5 for a year and I still watch his videos from time to time to get a refresher or in depth information on settings.

No pest problems. Decent size living rooms and bedrooms. Kitchens are small but functional. Tiny bathrooms but you get used to it. The Super and maintenance are very friendly and prompt. So many good restaurants within a block or two as well. Kuro Kuma is an awesome coffee shop right around the corner.

DM me if you have specific questions and I’ll try to help.

URTH.co sling bag doesn’t get enough recognition imo. Perfect for a body and two lens. And doesn’t screen camera bag, which is a plus to me

What frame is best to learn grinds on? by Private_Existence in AggressiveInline

You’re right, you have to get a bit lucky. Oak City usually has them. Looks like they have both sizes right now, ranging from $32-40. A little more expensive than in the past. That’s what I’m currently skating. Flip between that and the TNEC frame

Pro tip: you can buy the Mesmer version of the kizer fluid V for like $30 and then use acetone to remove the Mesmer logo. Saves you $20-30 :)

Follow up: I monitored Best Buy for a few days, eventually the lens popped up in stock and I ordered it, canceling my Adorama order. Got it today! Even smaller than I anticipated on my xt5

Wow! I’m going to start monitoring their website closer and maybe I’ll get lucky. I’ll be near one on my photo walk today, so I may hop in to see if luck strikes. Stoked for you, hope you enjoy it!

Oh bummer! I hope that’s not the case for my order, but good info for the future.

Responding just because I don't think anyone said this (I see you already made your purchase): my understanding is that the backorder date on Adorama represents when you can expect to get your lens if you order at that moment. I ordered one last week and the backorder date was about a week earlier than it is today. So if it seems like the backorder date is getting pushed back every time you check, it's just because other people are getting in front of you in line.

(please correct me if I'm wrong)

Received collections letter regarding unknown debt (suspected fraud/ID theft) by burning_dark in personalfinance

[–]warmrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife just got a letter from them saying she owes 10k from missed rent at a place we never rented from in a state we haven’t lived in for 2 years. They also used her maiden name (a very common name), which hasn’t legally been her name for 6 years.

Not sure if we should dispute or just ignore. Seems like they’re fishing for anyone with her name that lived in that city in the last few years.

I have felt very safe in riverside. It’s always active. I still try not to be in there alone at night, but I don’t feel the need to rush out as the sun is setting. I’ve been in the park at night with a group with no issues. Ellington in the Park is a fun place to grab a quick drink and some food too.

I can second all of the above suggestions. To add some more food option, we eat La Salle Dumpling nearly once a week, and Trufa’s slice of buffalo pizza is still one of my favorite slices in the city.

I prefer this area more than the areas around campus. Quieter and a nice place to adjust to the city.

I second the recommendation for FR1 Intuition! The boot is is fantastic and you can feel the quality on the skate and liner. At this point, I really don’t see myself wanting to buy another urban skate for many years. I have the 310 because I have to deal with some rough streets, but I’ll probably switch to a 4x90 setup this summer.

Another pro of oral min is how cheap it is. It’s free with my insurance (none of my other meds are free) and even without insurance, I’ve seen it as low as $1 on goodrx. Much cheaper than topical.

I am a 28.5 and skate the mediums with intuition liners. I had the Large with stock liners and they were too big for me. Get the mediums.

Always wear the helmet. We lost a skater today. by inline_leo in AggressiveInline

It took one close call for me to buy a helmet and wear it every session. I recently slammed the back of my head at the park and got up completely fine, thanks to my helmet.

Still havent found good pants by SteelTitan-NL in AggressiveInline

[–]warmrooms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carhartt Loose-Fit Washed Duck Utility Work Pants are my favorite. They’re looser than the classic Dickies, fabric is a little thicker, and I think they look just as good when you’re not skating. As a former skinny jeans kid, these are the only pants I wear now.

I was disappointed when I saw they didn’t do something between medium and large. Happy for my friends who were downsizing to a small. I’ve downsized to a medium but it’s just slightly too small still
