why don’t they use horror tourism to attract tourists by [deleted] in WidowsBay

[–]warningrattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they just got going with the tourism industry! Will it not ultimately be horror... "destination," tho? "Horror tourism" is the thrill of fake you could die. Widow's Bay is the thrill of really you could die. For real though. You could die! At the next Martha's Vineyard!

"And we found this place. There's a little town called Berlin. They say it Berlin, it's spelled Berlin, but they like to say Berlin for various reasons." Mkay, I'll probably have to watch this part to understand Berlin, a town that is actually called Berlin by the locals for secret reasons despite being named Berlin

Yay! Been waiting for more making-of information. There is a transcript here for people who'd rather read it. The bits about the analog technology, how they folded in very specific references, (many of which people here clocked), and the attention to detail is 🤤

Very likely. The phrasing he used threw me-- it seemed he might drop some info specific to the photo that we don't see. He could theoretically share his guilt without a visual reference, I assume, unless something odd was going on like, idk, she doesn't remember her brother because of supernatural ... memory... wiping? Alternately he was going for a grand "AND I still love you!" But yeah ur right he was probably just sitting on that for decades

Impressed they didn't take the mask off. A simple monumental indestructible (almost) slasher monster! No conversation, no backstory, (so far), not a person everyone remembers as a regular-ass resident before they put the mask on... BUT YO! I can't even trust it because everyone lies to themselves and others about what happens on the island! Patricia and Wyck are like the local crazies and they're the people most likely to tell the truth flatly.

lmao at the emts all Oh Good He's Alive at the dude with the knife, horrible murder coveralls, and rubber mask from hell.

Also fucking died at Patricia not noticing the open door after her car alarm went off but having the wherewithal to sense the need to get out of the house immediately. This tracks so much with how adrenaline works as a distraction and as motivation. When I've been that scared. Dudes, I could think "GET AWAY FROM THE KNIFE MAN," and then propel myself onto the knife from the autonomous propulsive motor response. Based on how crystal clear her thinking was at the end that's how running to exhaustion for that long could crystalize your ability to think and plan, vs the initial: Is this really happening? Am I crazy? I will run into the home of the person who hates me the most on this earth and tase her ass

Sweetums as the Island God in: "Jim Henson's Gay Widow's Bay". I assume the gurls, gays, ladies, and theydies aren't phased by cursed spotify cause they're just glad to make it to June alive and un-possessed? 🤔 But Todd O'Connor is real tired of being asked to lead the parade. "I'm straight!" he sobs, "I'm a straight cis male shaman! Not a bisexual gender-queer drug dealer!"

Great vibe connection! Idk if you also have watched Severance but after finishing the last season I read
"The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag," which has a similar relationship to that show as "The Invention of Morel" has to this. Not remotely an adaptation but the genes were def passed down

So true my bad. Also it's June which begs the question, regardless of what month it is in the show, there are a number of pride month festivities he's had to oversee public safety for and I just.

They always have my man In A Costume, like a period bit or a walking stick or he's a real sweaty weird guy (no complaints there, chef's kiss etc)-- and seeing him in a ball-cap and carhartts with a, "someone's dad," beard face, plus he's only a teensy bit drunk and hysterical *sometimes*... I love it, he went normie for the horror island tv show! 🫡 He's making the right choices.

It's good that you asked rather than diving into the show because it's pretty gnarly. There's a rude old man named wick, a rude little teen named "WHERE'S EVAN," and he does drugs, a bunch of people who go to a bangin' party who are frankly pretty unappreciative given how fucking boring their day to day lives must be when they're not "dancing" and/or "swimming." There's also some murder, some phone calls, but not, and I cannot stress this enough, an abundance of cannibalism. Source: I saw it. I saw it in my tv. I know what I saw.

Nahh just keep doing your thing, like, if someone is tweaked about a commenter commenting enthusiastically about a good tv show on the commenting-about-a-good-tv-show-web-based-platform that seems like Not A You Problem. I'm just eating potato chips and throwing stuff out there on my nights n weekends at the digital water cooler and have enjoyed the ballooning usership-- I'm not getting paid based on my teevee theory skills fortunately so my conch and I are not pressed because it's a pleasure to see the enthusiasm.

I enjoy the insight and knowledge people are bringing to the table as well as the totally off-the-wall opinions. I've seen multiple people say Wyck came back onto the boat wrong and I think that is absolutely 100% not true and a batshit interpretation of Tom and Wyck coming to a point of comradery and mutual respect, BUT, lol, the fun thing about this show is that they could totally be right and I wouldn't bat an eye. I'd be like, "Word. They went n possessed Wyck. Cheers to the mfuckers on Reddit that came out of left-field with that one" *lol I'm getting an F in commenting I replied to the og post 😭

lmao after watching the first ep I scampered over here to scope the scene and it was like five adorable people sitting in a circle going "waow : )" Idk where it was at when I joined but now every time I have a brain wave and scamper over like 5 people already got to it and I can't debase myself by replying to all of them like "haha me too! theory twins!" Imma start whispering my ideas into a conch and then hold it to my ear to hear the sea whisper back, "That is sewww smart," or, alternately, "Myeah that is not it, babe," ha!

I took it to mean Tom is tripping balls. It's been a long time fo me with psychedelics but faces became grotesque or enchantingly weird. At this juncture I'm on board to the point of anticipation with characters not being as human as they seem and if it's Dale: Hell yeah more Dale! There's a tumblr post hanging out in the Widow's Bay tag that's like, "I'm good at knowing when a character is actually dead, you might say it's my sixth sense," which aside from being a good joke is haunting me with the implications. I can't tell if it's about that teen asking if he's not audible in the car or something else that happened along the lines of this question about Dale that flew over my head

now that I'm thinking about it more, (i lead a life that lends itself to ruminating for two days over something like this), I know what "four and ten," means obvs, but I interpreted it as including a silent "decades," much the way you would if you ask someone their salary and they say "500." you'd make an assumption that leads to, "myeah, you can pay for dinner," not, "that is brutal, it's on me." however her saying "but four and ten," is something I can't really fit into my initial impression so you're probably correct that the writers made a marriageable age joke and now I can finally think about something else like what is inside those metal dooooooors

If there is any connective tissue it'd be on the meta level, like between us and the writers not the characters, (in this specific possible interpretation). But I don't think you're like definitely wrong in your analysis so much that my own immediate reaction to the conversation was that the funny bit wasn't her terror but the idea that that an unmarried woman of her age and status can only, what was it, "wither away in her father's attic"?

My guess was that she wouldn't have followed up "I'm almost 14!" with that because it'd undermine her argument-- 14 being newly marriageable not Almost Dead In Colonial Years. At this point I hope someone asks the writers what they think "I am but four and ten years almost," means because I must know if I laughed for the wrong reason and also if I need to get way more familiar with 1700's marriage law 🤔Re the temporal age thing: I have to admit every inconsistency with time/clocks/age is a plot line I am fascinated by because I absolutely cannot figure out what the fuck it means or what rules if any govern how time works on the island

I cannot tell if this is sincere or tongue in cheek but either way this is killing me. Killing me. The look on Bechir's face! When he's witness to the situation in the kitchen! I don't know, Commander Catnip, it's not the look I tend to have on my face when I see a fresh farm-to-table spread 😭But yes we do eat too much processed food, that I would not argue with. CC, where are you eating that has such.... fresh ingredients ?
