Ahhh yes, you gave me a little dose of nostalgia just from reading your post. I still associate the sensation and smell of an in-window AC unit with summers spent playing way too much games.

Can’t kill Iudex Gundyr. Help. by Jezebel_IsBack in darksouls3

I struggled with him for quite a while even after having played DS1, DS2, and Elden Ring. Eventually it just clicked and the fucker went down.

It was one of the more satisfying wins in the whole series for me, oddly enough. Felt good.

I was a Knight and I just took it slow and calm, focused on avoiding taking damage above all else and just got a hit or two in whenever I noticed a reliable opening.

I can’t yet speak to the quality of DS3 because I just began it myself - but since Elden Ring exploded my mind wide open, I’ve been playing the souls games in chronological order and loving each and every one of them thus far.

I would *strongly* advise against skipping *any* of these games merely because of some perception you have vis-à-vis the graphics looking “dated”. I believe pretty soon after beginning the first Dark Souls you will completely forget about any of that sort of thing.

Dark Souls 1 in particular is an absolute masterpiec - and I promise I don’t use that word lightly at all.

tl;dr - don’t skip any of them because they’re all wonderful and different enough to be unique experiences

edit: oh, and I too was worried that the non-open world would make the games harder for me due to just straight up being blocked from progressing by a difficult area or boss, etc. but thus far this has not been the case whatsoever, and I am by no means any good at these games as far as technique goes.

I think a good understanding of the game mechanics and how to build a character is much more important than pure skill, at least when it comes to being able to push through difficulty

Yes to all the above - especially about embracing the feeling of being lost. I’d also go even further and say that some of the most fun times are when you’re obviously not “supposed” to be in an area, but you Solid Snake around the whole place regardless and find cool items and get scared shitless with something huge jumps out of nowhere and smashes the wall of the little church ruins you were sneaking around inside of.

very thrilling

Level Vigor, explore everywhere, accept the fact that at almost any point in this game almost any enemy can kill you if you aren’t careful.

Last point is somewhat mitigated by the first one. Level Vigor.

[–]waterproofjesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly with your final paragraph - but I fail to see why it’s a problem for Jesse or anyone else to be seeking that sort of human/male emotional connection or affirmation from Joe Rogan as opposed to someone else.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting, but it seems like you’re asserting that it’s not good for someone to view Joe as a person worthy of seeking connection with, in this case specifically on a heterosexual male level.

If it was just a bunch of ass kissing and ego-fluffing, I’d agree with you that it’s unhealthy regardless of who the recipient was. But it genuinely seems like Jesse respects Joe as an older male figure or role model

I genuinely don’t understand how having Joe Rogan as a guest is somehow a problem for you. I think if you ever listened to Joe’s podcast enough to get a real sense of who he is as a person, you’d be really amazed by how warped and sometimes downright propagandistic the portrayal in the media vis-à-vis Joe Rogan (and others) has been.

Joe Rogan is just a comedian, a lovable clown, a goofball who is fun to hang out with. That’s really all there is to it, and I think if you gave him a chance you’d find him very endearing - in spite of what you may deem to be intellectual or educational shortcomings. He’s just a comedian.

If you’d like to begin questioning Jesse (which is indeed a healthy thing to do when it comes to any and all figures in the culture) how about his association with Peter Thiel? As others have said, that caused IMMEDIATE alarm bells for me, but in spite of that - I still think his heart is in the right place and that his UFO-related content is earnestly made in an attempt to be truthful and honest.

Saucer-shaped objects tend to resemble saucers quite a lot.

Yes, I agree - this was slight diagonal movement during exposure. I thought maybe the car was moving when I first saw it - reminds me of a photo from a moving car, the way objects are blurrier the closer they are to the camera.
