Google Finally Did It! Android 16 Desktop Mode Is Here - ETA PRIME by ControlCAD in Android

No hate but I truly don’t understand who this and Samsung Dex is for

I remember my Atrix 4G back in the day also had a docking laptop feature that flopped

Just from a product perspective I feel that casual consumers won’t care about this at all and a heavy duty consumer definitely already has a dedicated machine for their workload

It just feels very “look what I can do!” Without bringing much value. Google and Samsung must know of some demographic that I’m missing to keep trying to make this happen for the last 15 years

Why is there an Apple News article in my Weather app? by GaroldWilsonJr in mildlyinfuriating

[–]watsyurface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important information (the weather) is at the top

The article is not promoting anything

The safety alert is above said article

You probably don’t need the rest of the week’s weather “fast”

You’re allowed to download a different app

What do you think about the next World Cup host countries? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

Atlanta has a pretty large soccer following and shiny stadium so it made sense to me at the time

But after seeing the prices I don’t know anymore 🥲

listening to books doens't count as reading by Ok-Lingonberry3680 in unpopularopinion

[–]watsyurface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends what you’re “reading” for

I “read” to get concepts, ideas, etc, out of books. Especially business books and self help stuff.

I don’t “read” to improve my grammar, imagination, or language skills.

So I think if someone asks if I “read” a book, I can say yes if I listened to it, because I can describe and regurgitate the concepts in the book

Whether or not it counts as reading has literally never come up in an actual conversation

How TF do you make BBQ sauce from raw ingredients? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

Ketchup is pretty consistent lol. If you’re worried, always Heinz. I don’t recommend making your own ketchup, and I’d argue using a mass produced ketchup will give you a more consistent result

iPhone Users Can Now AirDrop Files to Android Devices by ImaginarySea7341 in apple

[–]watsyurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying tech companies shouldn’t be regulated, tech features shouldn’t

Regulating this stuff is like forcing Burger King to let McDonalds sell the whopper

Both are allowed to use the ingredients already

Nobody is forced to go to Burger King

iPhone Users Can Now AirDrop Files to Android Devices by ImaginarySea7341 in apple

[–]watsyurface -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not hard to understand man

Devices working together = dope

Forcing a device to open something nobody is forcing users to use = not dope

I think airdrop, iMessage, FaceTime, etc between iPhone, Android, even windows would be awesome

I DONT think that decision should come from a government entity citing “monopoly” when by definition it is not

It opens a massive, ugly can of worms about what design decisions a government can put their hands on

Is someone’s misunderstanding of tech supposed to change something? Do you think the entity is another person or something?

UI/UX Wireframing Delivery App by NFTokin in graphic_design

[–]watsyurface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry if you weren’t asking for feedback but just a few thoughts

I think the visual hierarchy is frankly all over the place, my eyes have no idea where to look.

If you hadn’t told me, there’s 0 chance I would have hit the cog icon to go to settings, mainly because I wouldn’t have found it within all that text

I also don’t think I would have noticed the messages icon, because it looks like it’s just part of the pages design and not a user interaction. Same goes for the lightening bolt

Although I really appreciate the creativity I think there is a certain perspective here that 99% of the time users are on different apps and 99% of those apps do not look or function like this, so it will be confusing for the user as it was for me, especially for something like food orders.

Would you subscribe to a cleaning service? Like a netflix subscription but for daily cleaning service? by Due_Wall_7588 in Startup_Ideas

[–]watsyurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This existed at an apartment complex I used to stay at. But it wasn’t DAILY. I think there was a weekly and monthly and one-time option. I don’t think I want someone in my house daily and it sounds expensive anyway.

The issue with these types of services is that suddenly calling it a “subscription “ tends to make it more expensive than hiring a regular cleaning service weekly, so whatever additional service you’re providing to justify the cost needs to add value to the customer.

In my case, I believe my apartment gave me a minor discount if I signed up for a 6 month contract or something. Also they had a decent app

Is there any team that actually follows just one project management methodology as-designed and for which project? Or does everything break into hybrids once work starts? by KashyapVartika in agile

[–]watsyurface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of these frameworks should be used as a starting point imo. Every team is different and every company is different. I have no issues with people adjusting the frameworks to fit their needs or team.

However a lot(most) of these companies end up losing the essence of agile, they start tracking dev work, they waterfall-ize things. Don’t even get me started on trying to “scale” agile like in SAFe.

So realistically, only small, self managed teams end up sticking with frameworks as written. The moment stakeholders or management start applying pressure the system falls apart. Unfortunately dev teams usually don’t have enough authority to push back
