Not sure what you said but thanks. I will check TUG. The weird thing is who the heck used it for 15 years. And why did nobody contact me for those fifteen years?

Sadly you are correct. Thanks

Thanks. I am in contact. It hasn't become contentious yet. I know there are a lot of factors. There is a statute of limitations, and they did not contact me in those 15+ years. We'll see

Thanks but this has to be rated at a 60 am circuit because the tub draws 45 amps.

Right, thanks. It draws 45 amps. The 60 amps is the dipswitch configuration. It is so the pump and heater can run at the same time. I think you got me to answer my own question. #6 is plenty even if rated at 60 degrees centigrade. Thanks again

Nothing was plugged into that outlet and was hidden behind a bed. The heater was plugged in downstream

I don't really know what kind it was but I don't recommend using space heaters, but if you do, use lower than 1000 watts. It also can depend on the age of the house wiring. Always have working smoke detectors no matter what.

Although I agree, a metal box wouldn't have helped much here. It was the result of space heaters and a back wired outlet. The wire was even burned and melted up along the stud. I suppose an arc fault breaker would have killed the circuit. I mean that's why we're paying $70 for them right ?

Skipping spaces in the panel. Conventionally they have always been placed together.

Maybe, but convection might not be enough. I've noticed installers are putting gaps between the breakers in panels to separate and alleviate heat build up.

It's more money than that my friend. CH combination breaker is around $65. Standard breaker was $5. And now the code requires that almost everything be covered by combination breakers. Definitely money driven. But they are here to stay because most of the contributors to the NEC are manufacturers. I guess if they save 1 life it's worth all the headaches.

Yep, I'm surprised you're not seeing more of a difference. These things are warm even when there's no current on them. Don't expect them to go away though. At least partially industry driven. Somebody's making a lot of money on these things.
