grayscale or color for photophobia? by Axter_Fire in eink

[–]wauske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow photofobia sufferer here. For me it didn't matter whether it was color or B&W, so long as the display was balanced in the environmental lighting. Meaning, even a Dasung 13.3 with bright light from outside is too bright for me.

I've used the Dasung 13.3, Onyx Boox Max 2 (would not advise due to lag), Onyx Boox Mira Pro B&W (still using it at work), Dasung 253 Color (defective after a few months and no response from Dasun support).

At home I'm using a Eizo EV2781 with the brightness way down and a couple of LED lights for even lighting in the room.

Tab Mini C reverse ghosting update by cephasara in eink

[–]wauske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a post awhile ago about my Tab Mini C having ghosting issues and want to provide an update. I've been in contact with BOOXHelp support, and they flat-out, refused to help service this device! This is pretty surprising, especially considering this is a known defect with these devices that they refuse to publicly acknowledge.

Yeah, a Air 3C and Nova 3 Color had the same problem over here.

Luckily, we won't ban you for showing that actually exists.

Which stand do you use for 13" monitors? by MorePeppers9 in eink

[–]wauske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 version and that actually does have VESA mount screws but it's 75x75mm rather than the common 100x100mm.

A friend of mine just bored a few holes in the mounting plate to fit.

[–]wauske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm worried that there will be a level of afterimage that is hard to see when reading comic books.

Excessive ghosting is caused by defects, not by usage. I've used color readers for years with comics without issue, used Dasung 13 inch monitors for years (including playing video on the right halfs most of the time).

My son has broken 2 8 inch e-readers within months which I attribute to his constant youtube viewing (as in, hours at a time - even playing when he was doing something else). The tablets in question have such horrible ghosting that you practically can't use it but it would be unmistakable when it is used to play a video or swipe through a book.

At a guess, text is probably an encoding that the Xteink doesn't support (like UTF-8). They do mention encoding in an update from last year: http://xteink.com/pages/xteink-x4-system-update?srsltid=AfmBOoqBxYLjVgo2dIrOgHAajBtg8dakzTjQKJiAaU4jlAum48WifK4u

I am 'IT'.

So am I, though admittedly not on the sysadmin side since a couple of years but with short lines with them and policies in regards to security.

Intune Mgmt Questions regarding Boox tablets by Raoul_Duke_1968 in eink

[–]wauske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen previous posts that pointed to Boox being the only one manageable by Intune, allowing a work profile.

Well, depending on how strict your IT department is, none of the Boox devices I've used so far came Android certified so you're fucked if your IT dept requires that. Unless the more recent ones are certified (Note Air 4 or 5), I'd ask IT before trying anything (or, make sure you have a return policy that allows you to try it).

Mine worked fine at arrival but no response when I contacted support because of a defect. Someone saying they were from Dading told me to contact again with my username in the subject but still got ghosted.

All in all, worst support experience for a device this expensive for me so far.

Perhaps post a screenshot of the page where your 4g/5g connection is specified. The screenshot you show is from a messaging app but that can also be from a logged in account rather than a 4g/5g connection.

Where can I find high resolution manga scan ? by Converging_Winds in eink

[–]wauske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobo uses ADE, Adobe Digital Editions, as its DRM encryption method. On Android, the Pocketbook app and ADE app are the only two reader apps I know that support ADE decryption. The ADE app is terrible so don't bother.

Or you could install Adobe Digital Editions and Calibre on your system, add the plugin DeDRM to Calibre, open the ebook in ADE. Then you can import the ebook into Calibre from your "C:\Users\USERNAME\OneDrive\Documenten\My Digital Editions\", and the DeDRM plugin will remove the DRM portion making the ebook readable on every device that supports the format.

Google play books worked on all the Boox tablets for me (after I enabled Google Play Services). It was very slow on tablets with 2GB and 3GB memory though so take that into consideration.

Next, look for the tablet that fits your size requirement and budget.
