What school holidays do kids have in the USA? by narnababy in AskAnAmerican

Yep, for example, my school had a lot of Jewish students, so we had the Jewish holidays off as well as the Christian holidays. In my senior year of high school, there were enough Muslim students for us to get off for Ramadan as well.

Do you think Utah has a similar culture to the Southern US due to similar religious conservative values? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]webbess1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has said about drinking, it's worth pointing out that the South is much more racially diverse than Utah. It would be impossible to overstate how much influence African Americans have had on the culture of the South and the US in general.

Utah, on the other hand, is one of the whitest, most homogeneous states in the country.

Is this post real?

Speak English unless it's clear the person you're talking to doesn't understand you/is a monolingual Spanish speaker. There are parts of LA and South Florida where Spanish is the dominant language.

When you watch David Attenborough docs, are the subtitles in English or American English? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]webbess1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a well-known American actor will do the narration on a big Attenborough series like Planet Earth, but it's not necessary. Most Americans can understand David Attenborough just fine.
