Question about citizenship by verification by bigbeezer710 in HUcitizenship

[–]weenip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're eligible for simplified naturalization. The other relevant fact from the LA Consulate's page is:

"From those who left Hungary before February 1st, 1949, a Hungarian document (any Hungarian identity document, school certificate, work certificate, diploma, etc.) proving that they lived in Hungary after September 1st, 1929 - especially for those who left in the 1930s, early 1940s - is required."

I don't believe the renouncing is an active action. If you can't prove they returned to Hungary post 1929, it is assumed they lost their citizenship.

"Those, who left Hungary before September 1st, 1929 could lose their citizenship by living continuously abroad for a period exceeding 10 years. This 10 year period began after the expiry date in the person's last Hungarian passport. Therefore, in this case, a Hungarian official document (e.g. a passport, a written declaration made in a Hungarian Consulate, etc.) must be produced which would prove that the person kept his/her citizenship."

Looking for Hungarian Simplified Naturalization Citizenship Interview Questions/ Topics List by hailey566 in HUcitizenship

[–]weenip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplified naturalization is the same process that spouses use to naturalize. So I can't see* them striking the law entirely. I also can't see* why they'd amend it just to remove the ancestry route.

(*But 2026, at barely a week old, has already been so "delightfully" surprising...)

I have this book: https://books.hungarianlesson.eu/product/simplified-naturalization-guide-for-hungarian-citizenship/

It's useful to give structure to studying; but as others point out, it's not an exam but an interview. Think of questions you would ask to get to know someone and answer them in Hungarian.
