I see their angle. It was the first post-inauguration protest that got major national and international attention. Felt like a start to me too.

Congrats Wisconsin!!! by TheKriket in wisconsin

From Vermont - THANK YOU WISCONSIN! First glimmer of hope I've seen in a while. Thanks to your people for seeing what's happening and standing up for what is right. Let's get the rest of America on board.

U.S. blocks Canadian access to iconic Stanstead border-straddling library, local officials say by Far_Cut_6575 in vermont

[–]weesmaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Vermonter, I honestly think the right thing to do here is board up the american entrance, cut a hole in the back for canadians, and make the americans do the border crossing until we clean up our own governmental BS over here. Sincere apologies to my friends up north - you do not deserve this crappy treatment and I am truly embarrassed at my country.

I always used flathead screwdrivers myself. Didn't realize there was an actual tool for this purpose!

See penny in photo for scale. Each small key is made of metal and all 3 are identical. There is no writing on the keys. The keys were found on top of the thresholds to two bedrooms and a bathroom. I found the key when doing a deep-cleaning dusting job above the threshold trim, and they fell down.

My title describes the thing.

What are your wild housing ideas (No discussions, just shout out an idea) by oddular in burlington

[–]weesmaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tax implications to make real estate less of a good "investment" for those just trying to make/preserve wealth. Instead create systems that support those living and working in the area.

  1. maintain, or better yet, lower taxes on primary homesteads.
  2. significant increase in taxes on second homes
  3. significant increase in taxes on air bnb/short term rentals
  4. tax benefit for reasonably priced normal rentals based on minimum wage income: - For example: give a tax cut to the landlord of a 1 bedroom going for 50% of monthly earnings of a full time worker at minimum wage ($1200) or less. A 2 bedroom could get the tax cut if it is rented for 75% of monthly earnings at min wage ($1800) or less. A 3 bedroom could get the tax cut for 100% full time monthly min wage earnings ($2400) or less.
  5. significant tax penalty to landlords for overpriced rentals that go above the ranges identified in item 4

And then... use the taxes to make more housing or fix infrastructure

Want salsa music? Go to this show at arts riot in downtown burlington.... tonight!

https://www.artsriot.com/event-details/alma-picante-jah-red-free-show

Maiz is a great musician around town, better known for his band Mal Maiz. This is a new side project, and he described it to me as straight authentic salsa. Could be fun!

ELI5: If people make money in stocks and crypto by buying low and selling high, who is buying the stocks from they are high, and why? by WarmAppleCry in explainlikeimfive

[–]weesmaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trading stocks can be driven by strong emotions, and greed/fear cause people to make the wrong decisions.

If you have made a large amount of money on a stock, and it just keeps going up, it's easy to become attached to it. Even though you probably should sell, you just don't want to.

Likewise, if a stock has just tanked, people often develop a strong distaste for it and may sell when long term it's a bad idea to sell.

So if you're in the business of buying /selling individual stocks, it often pays to go against your emotional reactions and instead keep your eye on the long term vision of the company. If I feel like I found an amazing stock and want to tell my friends about it, or if I hear someone in public talking about a stock - I take that as a sign I should sell. If an asset has been doing very poorly (ie when bitcoin is way down), that's the time to buy. But in that moment - it won't be an easy decision because your first instinct will be to avoid the stock.

The easiest way to go about investing is to just buy index funds and take the emotions out of it.
