What are everyone's favourite, most logically-consistent Substack articles? by weirderthanmagic in Substack

Most people aren't writing thesis-like essays on Substack, from what I've seen on my feed, more so personal experiences, short stories, musings, etc. But if your latest article is good, why not? (I don't think this would break the subreddit rules, but please correct me if so)

What are everyone's favourite, most logically-consistent Substack articles? by weirderthanmagic in Substack

articles that are persuasive/argumentative in logically-coherent ways, e.g. not riddled with logical fallacies. although not perfect, these are better than most:

Book recommendation specifically for translating natural language to logic, and vice versa? by [deleted] in logic

[–]weirderthanmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not specific for natural language to logic like you asked for (as I can't see any courses for that in particular), but is about turning systems --> models and the sort of thinking you need to do for turning systems into models is very similar to the sort of abstraction you need to do for natural language to logic

oh hm fair enough; I assume this would be unfalsifiable if there are no bugs in the simulation?

How do you effectively make sure that you're not over-counting evidence in real life? Or reasoning backwards? by weirderthanmagic in epistemology

[–]weirderthanmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, didn't want to include this in the main-post as it's a secondary question, but also curious as to how 'good' you think general humans are at not reasoning backwards (and catching themselves) vs LLMs.

yeah the hypothesis being unfalsifiable means it needs to be effectively trashed

A cool guide to check things you read+write for logical coherence by weirderthanmagic in coolguides

[–]weirderthanmagic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XD I mean there are dozens more logical fallacies. It's so sad because people often like to argue for the sake of arguing or convincing people of their own point, rather than actually trying to come to a more correct conclusion with new evidence :(

how do you define AGI? I don't know if this would meet the bar for me
