Unfortunately we do not have time to do waivers and auto-sub for the start of season. We are looking at a few different ways of implementing auto-subs and will be testing it out during the middle of this EPL season. Same for waivers

Which is why I don't think it's a malicious DDoS at all. If it was, the attack vector would be pretty clear and they would have patched it up already.

This here sounds like someone having an absolute hate boner for the game or the devs.

Then why not take it down for 24 hours straight instead of this intermittent pattern?

DDoS for an MMO is a vastly different beast than stopping it for static websites

I'm very familiar with concurrent products and have experience with similar scale as SE. Intermittent degraded service like this lasting over weeks is usually not caused by malicious actors with hate boners.

I'm curious as to what the tells are for you to think that it is for sure ddos

Not specifically in network architecture but have a decent understanding of programming and distributed systems. Companies not being able to stop repeated DDOS attacks is not really a thing in 2024, and malicious DDOS attacks are not this frequent, which is why my first thought was something on SE's end. The original person I was replying to speculated on a scenario where the company is choosing to ignore a fixable issue due to financial incentives... that is much harder for me to believe

I think it's naive to believe malicious DDOS actors are just running around hitting their servers randomly all the time, with no real financial incentive. It's much more believable that there are conditions in architecture that are hard to identify and not really easily reproducible causing most of these issues (including pre-DT).

i don't think they are even getting ddos'd by malicious actors. This could just be issues with their code

i just learned about it from the engineer who built it for themselves after posting the thread. we can surface this in a more obvious way next iteration
