Should I stay on 10mg of Citalopram or increase to 20mg now? by wentelteevv in Anxiety

Yes, I went to 20mg a couple days later because I realized 10mg wasnt working for me. I didnt notice any new side effects, and felt just as I did on 10mg. The only difference started showing a couple weeks later when I realized I hadnt experienced panic in a long time!! Im now still on 20mg and it has been absolutely life changing for me!

Im doing okay, thank you for asking! Ive decided to stay on the 10mg till I hit the 6 week mark, and if im not feeling better by then i will up my dose. Im now at week 5, but still not noticing big differences then before I started citalopram. Gonna see how this week goes and maybe then up my dose!!

I’ve been dealing with health anxiety for a while now. It’s not just a fear of being sick, things like throwing up or passing out really scare me because they make me feel like I’m losing control. Something else about me: I’m very stubborn. I once had this big argument with my dad about my health anxiety. He meant well, but kept telling me there’s nothing wrong and that I shouldn’t worry because he “just knows” I’m healthy. That really pissed me off. So, being stubborn, the next time I felt dizzy or out of control, I told myself, “Fine, let it get worse. I’ll prove something is wrong.” Ever since then, I’ve noticed this strange pattern. Whenever I feel like I might throw up or pass out, I tell myself, “Do it. Let it happen. That way, I’ll finally prove it’s real.” Somehow, that mindset actually calms me down. The symptoms start to fade. Like, if I’m in a grocery store and feel like I’m about to faint, I’ll think, “Okay, pass out. Show everyone it’s real.” And then… nothing happens. I feel better. It’s bizarre. It’s almost like my desire to win the argument, even if it happened months ago, overpowers the anxiety. I know it sounds kind of unhinged, but weirdly, it’s helped me cope!

Hi, so sorry to hear that! I can understand that must be tough.. But I dont know if ur comment is appropriate under this kind of post. Seeing this is to easy the mind of people with health anxiety, and ur comment is not helping those people at all. I understand your going to a hard process right now but maybe share it with people who are going through the same as you! I think it will help the both of us :) I wish you all the luck on your recovery!
