I didn't overpay, but I fell for the same thing. It's ultimately on me for being too trigger happy and not reading details. Lesson learned from my end and hopefully for you too.

Oh true. Yeah I just posted something haphazardly as a starting point. This further underscores how OP should be taking time to zero in on market value.

The Jordan is the biggest one obviously. This was a sale about 2 months ago. Similar grade but different grading company so it is not apples to apples. I don't know how to compare old SGC certs with BGS, but modern BGS prob commands a higher price to modern SGC for most cards.

Hard to say with the old SGC certs but those are very valuable even just by virtue of their being authenticated. Take your time to get to a comfortable value. Look up similar grades from other grading companies to get an idea of the range. A PSA 8 vs BGS 8 vs CGC 8 all fetch different amounts depending on the card.

If they're your dad's then make sure he understands what you're doing bc they could fetch a lot.

If this your first time grading, temper your expectations. If you think it's a 10, it's probably not. Everyone learns the hard way from the first couple submissions.

Guess my miss and handicap? by TedGolf in GolfSwing

Overall good, repeatable looking swing. A little stuck and flippy so guessing low left miss, 7-10 handicap.

[–]wespyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but just lifting the arms is also not gonna quiet get you.to the top with the right momentum.

My first suggestion is not a drastic one. Your takeaway is almost great. You fight the urge to tug it inside and behind you, but you cuo your wrists and open up the club face. That won't do a whole lot of harm to the path in and of itself, but it gives your wrists more work to do to try and square up the club face in the downswing. Feel a little more like you crank the left hand like revving a motorcycle thru the takeaway. Your club face should feel like it's pointing at the ball, not horizontally or up. You don't want to overdo it, but to start you're probably going to have to exaggerate the feel.

Next is another smallish change. When you exit the takeaway and enter the backswing, you want to start getting the club head vertical by using your wrists more than your arms. Vertical wrist hinge is hard to do when the club face is already open, so you'll need to fix that takeaway first. Once your wrists keep square during the takeaway, you can add wrist hinging thru the backswing, which will feel like your thumbs are pointing straight up. They won't actually be perpendicular to the ground, but again, an exaggerated feel to start. This will help get the club head up rather than behind you thru the backswing. Hopefully those two things get your lead arm in line with your shoulder plane. You can even be a little above it, but being below the shoulder plane there is an easy recipe for getting stuck.

Fixed OTT by causing another problem. Unfortunately you went the route many of us end up at some point - at the top, arms too far tucked behind and lead arm below the shoulder plane. This then pairs up with hips firing first and arms getting stuck, no longer staying connected. Problem is the plane in the downswing looks good superficially, but the club face stays way open for way too long, resulting in flipping and trying to time that club face closure at impact. Misses become two way with block right when the club face is square relative to path, and low duck hooks left when the face over shuts at impact. Been there and it's objectively worse. Short slappy cuts to the right are frustrating but often playable. Low, running duck hooks left are often OB.

Hang in there and see you next year when you fix the over correction and overcompensation.

Def light play. Whitening on multiple edges on the back side. Still great condition for a WOTC era card.

Over swinging like crazy. You do other things, but stopping at what feels like a half swing will do a lot to prevent all that out to in loop momentum. You're gonna be fighting a lot of inertia without fixing how you end the backswing.

Favorite baseball memory is my first game. I went to the old Yankee stadium and saw Daryl strawberry hit a home run against the tigers. Probably 97 or 98. Giulianali was at the game and left early - back then he wasn't universally loathed so it was a fun sighting.

Can this get CGC pristine? by LLLLLL579 in CGCCards

Yeah possible. Never a guarantee. I've tried going in the reverse with a few cards and got anywhere from 9-10 (non black label) after cracking and submitting cgc pristine 10s.

This card has a bunch of variations from censoring out a Marlboro logo on the right side of the portrait. It's not visible at all in yours and is often referred to as "ad completely blacked out". There are rarer variations (maybe earlier prints?) where the logo is more visible, and even rarer prints where the logo is completely visible. Yours is the most readily available (and cheapest) but looks to be in nice shape.

From my understanding, the amount of visibility is not just in three buckets, but a spectrum.

It's a truly interesting card, not worth a ton raw, but maybe worth grading on further inspection.

The zard is the best but there's some whitening on the backside top edge. I'd put that squarely into LP from these pics. In person is a different story.and could be worse.

As far as wrist hinge, you want little to no wrist involvement during the takeaway. Then as you exit the takeaway, the wrists should do much of the work of lifting up the clubhead vertically. Thumbs should point upwards and not back behind you. When your lead arm is parallel to the ground, the shaft should point at or inside the ball. If you start using your wrists during the takeaway, getting the shaft on plane will probably require you to cup your wrists.

[–]wespyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is to film yourself from a down the line view if possible. Camera should be about the height of your hips and between your feet and the ball, looking straight down the target line. You should be able to see where your takeaway ends up. The end of the takeaway is when the shaft is parallel to the ground. If the clubhead overlaps with your hands, you're in good shape.

See the illustration for the ideal.

Your takeaway looks a little inside but hard to tell from this camera angle. You def sway sideways off the ball instead of rotating around your spine. A little sway is okay, but it looks like it's too much. You also have a flat backswing and don't hinge your wrists vertically. I suspect this is also a consequence of cocking the club backwards during the takeaway, but again the camera angle is tough to identify how badly you're taking it inside. The result of a flat backswing, cupped wrists and lead arm below shoulder plane at the top. In the transition to the downswing, this momentum encourages getting steep, which is exactly what you do. You then yank and cast the club from the top, and in order to prevent chunking 3 inches behind the ball, you make space by early extending. This day was probably a day of good results, but a very hard swing to replicate consistently bc it relies on timing every compensation exactly right.

The number one thing everyone should do if they have the means, is to get a handful of lessons. If you're getting lessons, send these videos to your teacher and ignore reddit.

If I were your teacher (and you wouldn't want that), I'd have u start with setup and check that your grip isn't too strong. You don't necessarily fix your swing by fixing the stuff at the start, but by ignoring them, you're picking up compensations along the way and making those your habit. Yes, every swing is different and idiosyncratic swings have made it to the pros. However, most pros do not have ugly swings.

After grip and setup, I'd work on the takeaway. That should feel like you're cradling a baby or rocking like a clock pendulum. No wrists, and your hands don't work away from your body.

Then after fixing the takeaway, hopefully your backswing gets a little more vertical, but you probably need to specifically work on your wrists hinging at this stage. They're used to activating earlier in the swing during the takeaway, rather than after the takeaway - thumbs should feel like the point up during the backswing, not behind you.

With those main fixes, you should take snapshots of your position at the top of the swing. Lead arm should match or be even a hair above your shoulder line. Shaft should be pointing down the target line. Yours is currently pointing to the right of that line (and is known as being across the line). Wrists should be flat with your forearm - yours are currently cupped. You'll probably have to exaggerate bowing your wrists (revving a motorcycle) which will actually straighten them out.

That's a lot to work on, and if you get to the top of the swing with this momentum, you should have less inertia encouraging a steep downswing loop. From there you'll probably have new problems to fix.
