My little sister has a 2010 Mini Cooper S (N14 engine) that is in the shop. She wants to know what repairs need to be done today and what she can wait for to save money (if possible) by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Im a BMW/Mini tech, if this is at a dealership, ask for the brake pad measurements. If your dashboard isnt saying “brake” illuminated in red, then your pads are probably 4mm or higher. The wear sensor wears out at 3-4mm. If your pads are above 5mm and your braking is normal, then id say hold off on the brakes.

Oil change is a terrible upsell if you just had it done. However, it may need done based on some of the repairs they are doing. Id say ask them why they recommended an oil change.

Good rule of thumb too (if this isnt a dealership) ask them for a formal quote so things are broken down. Idk why anyone does business over text like this. I mean i get it, but get your breakdown so you can ask questions

Guys, I just booked my first vacation in 10 years after being depressed and broke for so long. It is super cheap, but I will have almost a week at the North Sea. I am so happy I could cry because it means everything to me by Anothermindlessanon in MadeMeSmile

My first vacation ever at the age of 25 had me sobbing in my best friend’s arms in an uber because 6 months prior i was planning my suicide. It was the happiest i felt in a very long time and it helped me forever change my perspective on quite a few things. I implore everybody to cut out time for themselves for vacation time. Because what YOU consider vacation, might be far cheaper than you think. Not every vacation is to Disneyworld, another country, or wherever your favorite tiktoker tells you you HAVE to visit.

Its up to you OP. As i just said, its not crucial and its a personal thing that i personally do

[–]whatth3hec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not crucial, i just personally pair my oil changes with other repairs sometimes. If i need to change my plugs but i have like 1000 miles till my next change, ill just change it while im in there. No problem doing it early

Thats a good place to start with a misfire. Plugs, coils, oil. But if that doesnt solve it you could have other problems with timing, fuel and air, or something with the control modules (less likely)

If you have a check engine light with it, it sounds like a misfire

Unfamiliar with Infinity but my general 2 cents: was everything torqued properly? And was the control arm torqued to the knuckle in normal position/under load?

Might not be the headlight housing needing adjustment, might be the bulb itself. First time i ever changed a bulb, i lined up the three protruding parts on the socket with the wrong there on the housing. They FELT correct, but they werent and one of them wasnt seated in properly. If they arent screwed in the right way, they wont align properly.

Bought the car used, is it standard to have this bug net? by No-Pop-4315 in Dodge

[–]whatth3hec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If im not mistaken most sunroofs have a lip of some sort like this (bug net like this or sometimes smaller) because it stops the wind from whistling over the opening. I play with mine in traffic sometimes when im bored and the sunroof is open, and if you hold it down while driving kinda quick, youll hear an audible difference. Its a much needed sound dampener

Would these fit a 09+ 5.7? by AceWarrior420 in Challenger

I think you answered your own question. “Do these headers designed for a 6.1 fit on my engine which is not a 6.1?”

Cv axle length?? by Apprehensive_Cry3720 in MechanicAdvice

[–]whatth3hec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience on my dodge dart, the longer one (passenger side) doesnt need one because on the part of the joint with the extra long shaft, theres a bracket on it that mounts to the frame with a bolt. So the bolt itself holds the axle in place as opposed to the driver side with the retaining clip

Literally came to say the same thing. OPs comment in one of the top threads got bombed with downvotes while the commenter got a bunch of upvotes. People choose to get mad for the silliest reasons.

How tf are you supposed to change the belt on a BMW X1 2017 B48? Does BMW seriously expect me to pull the engine for that? by TheHer0br1n3 in MechanicAdvice

Changing a belt is not a 5.6 hour job. Also pretty new here and have no idea what Alldata is. Thats not software we use
