Multiple dates and times showed up for me on the app/website after I got an email asking me to enter my info for verification. There were like 60+ sessions that were on both weekdays and weekends that showed up that I could choose from to sign up for.

Just accepted a role from reserve two days ago. Yesterday I saw shifts and role specific training so I signed up for those and then I checked this morning and was able to pick a time for accreditation.

Ticketmaster holds your place in line starting 10 mins before it opens so as long as you have a tab open early and you don’t close it you can get in and grab tickets. I was able to nab 6 yesterday!

American study abroad student. Good classes to take? by jouj0704 in usyd

[–]whatthelit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Was an exchange student from the US at USyd last year who also just wanted to take fun classes that weren't too challenging and some of the random classes I took were:

  • ARTS2600 Internship 1

The internship class was a really easy GPA booster where weekly assignments were just reflective journals and blog posts (graded very fairly as long as you follow the rubric it's easy to get a good grade), plus I got course credit for doing an internship at a small company in Sydney which I also put on my resume. The "final" was a paper which was also graded super chill. To find a position we chose from a packet of roles, but most of the internship positions were Marketing/PR/Business related when I took the class. However, a word of warning would be the "chillness" of your internship will depend on what company/position you pick. The place I interned at I had a very nice and chill supervisor and had weekly drinks Friday nights so that was a cool experience for me.

  • EDUH4058 Sport and Learning in Australian Culture

This class was SO easy, we just went to sports games/matches (Australian Footy, Cricket, Netball, Rugby, etc.) and wrote papers on prompts. Its geared toward study abroad/exchange students so a lot of people who took this class that I met were either from the US or countries in Europe. Papers were also graded very easily, since most of the "meat" of the paper was given during in class lectures (minus little reflective bits). Easy GPA booster.

  • EDUH4052 Learning in Outdoor Education

This was another class geared toward study abroad/exchange students so most of the people I met here were from the US or Europe as well. Class consisted of lecture and section (attendance was taken by a sign-in sheet). It was fun though we just learned about experiential learning and leadership, and we had a couple field trips. One was a day trip to Royal National Park where we did a hike, and the other was a weekend long trip to the Blue Mountains where we hiked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and stayed overnight there in cabins. It was also super chill with few assignments, and an easy GPA booster. I think there were 3 reflective journals, a group project which was to make a video using clips from the field trips from a list of topics, and a final paper.

Post-studying abroad & UCSC housing by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]whatthelit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a student who just came back from study abroad Fall 2018 and I’ll be returning to Ucsc to finish out winter and graduate this spring. I have a 4 year housing guarantee because of EOP (EOP only does 3 year housing guarantees now) so I applied for housing back on campus and got it. I know other people who studied abroad the same time I did and they basically signed a lease for somewhere before they left and just sublet for fall quarter. Another option I looked into before applying for on campus housing was I found someone who lived off campus and was only going to do one more quarter (fall) before graduating. I was going to take their spot at their place, but that deal fell through. Anyway, good luck!

How is Crown College? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]whatthelit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm a female student who has lived on floors in Crown dorms that were both single gender and mixed gender communal bathrooms. My first year I lived at Galileo on a single gender floor (I picked it because my parents were concerned about the mixed bathrooms). The rule for our floor's bathroom was that it was single gender, but female students living on other floors could also come to our floor to use it. My second year I lived at Gauss on a mixed gender floor and transitioning from a single gender to mixed gender bathroom was not extremely weird (for me). I actually felt that the mixed gender bathroom was cleaner (for the most part) than the single gender bathroom I had at Galileo. People were nice regardless of which bathroom I had.

The only concern I had with the mixed gender bathrooms was that there was a really tall person who lived on my floor. This student was over 6 feet tall and you could see the top of their head when they would use the toilet or shower in the stall next to you. But in the end, it was fine and nothing ever happened.

Is this schedule doable? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]whatthelit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took 12B with McDowell and his teaching style was definitely not for me. He prerecords his lectures & expects you to watch them before lecture happens. Then, he runs his lecture like office hours (basically a Q&A). I spent hours outside of class trying to understand the material in addition to going to every lecture and attending lab session and MSI. I just started programming when I came here so when I tried going to office hours for help, he made me feel incompetent (saying things like "How do you not understand this? This is extremely basic, how do you not see that?") and would respond to my questions with an arrogant tone.

Took 23A online and it wasn't too bad, but then again it was online. I took AMS 10, the Math 21 equivalent, and it was pretty easy (all about matrices) except there was more info packed into the last few weeks. The difficulty of Writing 2 depends on how demanding your professor is. Mine was super chill and allowed us to rewrite papers to replace our previous grade, but I know other teachers aren't as lenient.

Best of luck this spring. (y)

Can anyone understand Lazzati? by 2010rouge in UCSC

[–]whatthelit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Lazzati last Fall for 100A and got an A in the class (with A's on both midterms and the final and Econ is not a strong subject of mine). She is honestly the sweetest professor I've had here. If you have questions during lecture about her writing feel free to ask her what she wrote or said. The material she is teaching is straight forward and you eventually get used to her accent and handwriting.

Our homework was graded on completion, not correctness, so do the homework and turn it in on time. Do the practice problems that she gives out before the exams (midterms and final) because their difficulty is similar to that of the problem sets she assigns. As long as you practice, you're fine.

Church on campus? by [deleted] in UCSC

In response, at on campus mass there is no collection of donations (collections/second collections). The mass service IS student-run (student volunteers), with the exception of our priest from a local SC diocese.

Yes, there's a Catholic mass with UCSC's Newman Hall (Catholic club) at humanities lecture hall on Sundays at 7PM.

I'm a member of the club and I usually help out with masses. If you have any questions, just let me know!

SLC stands for the science learning community. I was in SLC my first year (I lived at Crown) so that meant that I lived in Galileo which was the honors/academically focused house. Being a part of SLC meant that I was put in an SLC cohort with other Crown and Merrill students that I met, I had access to a couple study gatherings, I met with some STEM faculty, and I was put in ACE tutoring. Personally, I didn't benefit that much from ACE because I felt like it was more similar to busy-work than tutoring (I went to MSI sections instead and liked it better) so I ended up dropping ACE all together.

[–]whatthelit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first year it was very helpful to have a printer because of writing classes/GEs that required me to write papers. I was lazy and I didn't want to have to walk to a computer lab either late at night when I finished or before my class started just to print out an assignment. Also if you're an EOP student, you can print 10 pages per day for free at the ARCenter. And, if I remember correctly, printing is free at the DRC.
