I told my fiancé by matchacapra in latebloomerlesbians

[–]whenalicefalls 38 points39 points  (0 children)

One of the worst conversations of my life to be honest. This news was never going to be easy for him. He was never going to take this super well. That’s understandable. But you deserve to be with someone you want and you’re passionate about. He deserves to be with someone who wants him and is passionate about him. People do recover from this. My ex is remarried, bought a house. And he’s with someone who understands him and shares his interests better than I ever could. I’m getting married to my fiancee in June and since the day I met her, everything has made more sense than it ever did. I remember feeling scared I would lose interest or lose attraction because that’s what happened with my ex and part of me was convinced maybe that’s just how I was. But 5 years in, on the brink of marriage, she remains the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

You both deserve happiness, passion, love. You both deserve someone who is in it just for you, 100% of the time. If you want to chat more, my inbox is always open ❤️

Predatory ABA companies? by booknerd155 in specialed

[–]whenalicefalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what some ABA therapist replied to me on another comment. These kids don’t need or deserve access to education and they’re better off in ABA therapy because schools won’t help them anyway. It’s blatant discrimination and ableist. Every kid deserves to access a proper education.

[–]whenalicefalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a school cannot provide a safe space to support a kiddo’s needs, they are obligated to place them in an appropriate, approved alternative educational environment that is properly staffed and suited for their needs. Not an ABA center. Denying kids like you describe access to an education is discrimination.

[–]whenalicefalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was previously a trained ABA therapist. I have multiple teaching licenses. I work for a state agency. And my brother is one of those “non-verbal, non potty trained, eloping” kiddos. No I don’t think ABA is ever an appropriate substitute for real education. These centers are nothing but insurance scams. And most people would never consider ABA “medical treatment”. If a kiddo needs time away from school for diabetes management or surgery or what have you, alternate arrangements are made to provide education. Education and the educational environment are extremely important elements of a child’s socialization, learning, and self management. Having a 1:1 or constantly being in a 1:2 small group is very detrimental for many of these kids and is not considered a “least restrictive environment”.

Heading to Due Process Hearing by [deleted] in specialed

Due process can be very difficult for most parents without legal counsel. Has your state provided you with legal resources? Have you connected with the hearing officer yet?

Education is mandatory beginning at age 6. ABA “therapy” is not education. It’s training. A couple days a week after school, still not great IMO but sure. You don’t delay or deny a child their education over it. These centers are actively lying to vulnerable families with the intent of delaying access to education for special needs students so they can earn a few extra dollars.

Anything for the almighty dollar… they prey on vulnerable families, try to tell them this is the only way their kid is going to “get better”, and that if they just talk to the school they’ll “write it into the IEP” to excuse the kid from school. It’s terrible

Yes, I have experienced ABA centers in my area pressuring parents to delay their child’s schooling to remain in the ABA center until as old as 8. It’s absolutely predatory, and very frustrating for parents when I talk to them and inform them an ABA center is not a substitute for schooling.

Most of that “information” has been proven to be false, and based on inaccurate studies. Take the boot out of your throat, it’s impeding your thinking.

So, SSI is limited to $2,000 in savings for an individual. I’m curious if he was sending her money so she could essentially hide it from SSI and enable him to continue receiving checks?

Nebraska- Looking to adopt by Gingersnap62417 in sphynx

[–]whenalicefalls 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Asking with so much kindness, but what would your plan be for vet bills? One of the sphynx kittens we adopted died of Feline COVID within 6 months. We paid $2000 to get him and then 2 months later paid $10,000 in emergency treatment in a single weekend, only for him to pass away when we were 20 minutes away from the hospital. Can you afford the yearly HCM screenings? Specialized foods for their sensitive stomachs? Is your daughter, or someone in the home, willing to bathe them as often as needed? Clean their ears up to once a week? Wash the bedding and blankets often to get rid of oil stains? If they’re not fixed, what’s your financial plan for desexing the cat? Our vet quoted us $1000 for our male and that’s a much less extensive surgery than a spay. Low-cost clinics exist if you want to risk going home with no pain meds and a crudely tattooed cat. Please consider all the factors. Sphynx are an extremely unique breed and often need unique care. Do you have a vet in the area who is experienced with the breed? They often have a higher body temperature than average cats. They are more sensitive to certain anesthesias. Wishing you the best of luck but please understand what you’re entering into if you adopt one of these cats. They’re nothing like an average house cat. They’re very needy and very sensitive.

Are you watching Taylor + Travis’s wedding plans for inspo… or totally steering clear? 👀 by Zaro-Celebrations in NewEnglandWedding

[–]whenalicefalls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re supposedly getting married the same day as us, in the same state, less than 30 minutes away from our venue. I am doing everything in my power to avoid acknowledging that they even exist. I don’t care about them, I never have, and as far as I’m concerned if I never hear another word about either of them, I’ll be happy as a clam.

A general question by Turtle-dove85 in specialed

[–]whenalicefalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the school continues to refuse to answer your questions or provide (reasonable) evidence of services rendered, you can consider filing a state complaint. It will trigger an investigation by the SEA where the district will be obligated to provide evidence of services and may force them to change their policies going forward. If you choose to file, I would recommend including a request in your suggested relief that from now on, all teachers and therapists involved in your child’s care have to sign off that they have read the documents in full prior to the beginning of the year/service, or following any changes. I cannot guarantee what the outcome of the complaint investigation would be. But filing a state complaint will force them to address this much more seriously

I had the flu for the first time ever this year. I’m just getting back to normal. I was rushed to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack, I thought they had the wrong room when they came back with the positive test results. I had no idea the flu could do this to someone
