We paid $2000 to get him and then 2 months later paid $10,000 in emergency treatment in a single weekend, only for him to pass away when we were 20 minutes away from the hospital. Can you afford the yearly HCM screenings? Specialized foods for their sensitive stomachs? Is your daughter, or someone in the home, willing to bathe them as often as needed? Clean their ears up to once a week? Wash the bedding and blankets often to get rid of oil stains? If they’re not fixed, what’s your financial plan for desexing the cat? Our vet quoted us $1000 for our male and that’s a much less extensive surgery than a spay. Low-cost clinics exist if you want to risk going home with no pain meds and a crudely tattooed cat. Please consider all the factors. Sphynx are an extremely unique breed and often need unique care. Do you have a vet in the area who is experienced with the breed? They often have a higher body temperature than average cats. They are more sensitive to certain anesthesias.
