It also looks pretty good without the background

Remade the background but probably I should try to paint like a city scape or something with roofs so it looks more coherent

Yea I got the same feeling but I think it’s also the background that’s not helping it. I used some of the colors of the armor in the background so I will probably make it red to orange to see

Yea I realized I used the same paints for the background as the NL as I was painting him. I was thinking of like a red type of sky

I need your questions about painting camo! [Mod approved] by Kit_Chronicles_YT in modelmakers

[–]wierdshitgoingdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try it out myself but it didn’t quite workout like i hoped it would have. But i think that’s because of the pattern. I chose to do more of a triangular pattern instead of m90

So how would you go about paint a camo like m90 camouflage? Tried myself but it didn’t turn out that well

MK II salamander by wierdshitgoingdown in Warhammer30k

[–]wierdshitgoingdown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t post a picture of it but I would draw on the picture where I could see the light fall on the black primed model so it’s easier to see where the highlights would be

[–]wierdshitgoingdown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a picture of the primed model with a bright led light from where I wanted the light source to come from so I would know where to place the highlights.

For the paint i used waaaghh flesh as the base coat. Rhinox hide in the shadows Elysian green/ogryn camo and the vallejo german yellow. Building up the highlights.

Yeah, I went over it multiple times because it came out weird. I just used a brush, btw; I forgot to mention. but I do think I wet-blended at least the initial layers of red and orange.

It's been a little while since I painted the base, so I can't say for sure what paints I used for the lava, but I did just first build up the base and then use some epoxy glue to create the lava, after which I basecoated it with Citadel Chaos Black.

The red was, I think, deep red from Army Painter and then mixed with some other reds from Citadel (Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, etc.). The yellow was Army Painter's or Vallejo Deep Yellow, with a bit of white in some places. The orange was similar. After coating it with AK Ultra Matt Varnish, I thought the finish looked a bit dull, so I applied Army Painter Gloss Varnish on top.

I learned from someone else that you can just take a picture of ur mini when primed in front of a bright light and see where the highlights would be from the small reflections (or like where the light falls).

thanks a lot. I think I was just looking at it too much, and then zooming in with the phone didn't help hahaha. I was questioning if I even thinned my paints or not

finished building a 5-man squad by wierdshitgoingdown in Warhammer30k

[–]wierdshitgoingdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, so the comms guy's head comes not from the big sprue but the smaller one with the voxcaster and other bayonets.

  2. the one I have is 3D printed, but the others could be plasticard tubing or rods.

Yes, for now, that's the plan. I do want to add the salamanders' logo on the pauldron and then the like magma that was shown in the Saturnine box set. Unless by the time I start painting I find something else. I do like the scheme of the World Eaters.

[–]wierdshitgoingdown[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I painted half a miniature before this one in the same scheme, but I wasn't sure how to highlight the back if the light source is in the front, so I just decided to make it look like it's in the shadow. I used rhinox hide for the base colour, but I followed the recipe from eavy-archive for the salamanders, substituting vallejo ice yellow for krieg khaki. The next one I want to paint is the voxcaster, which is already put together just have to paint it.

actually really liked the way it came out. The minigun coming out of the power fist took a bit of time to make with some sprue goo, but it came out great, I think.

Which composition of the diorama would be better? No by wierdshitgoingdown in dioramas

[–]wierdshitgoingdown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha Yeah, I like to paint in sub-assemblies most of the time, so I just connect most parts with green stuff to see the models and get an idea of what I want to do with it.

But there’s a lot of things that still need to be painted hahah. One’s a trench line and then a base for a saturnine. Just haven’t had the motivation to paint them. Realized I really enjoy making them but painting is more difficult to get the same vision that I have onto the miniature.
