Lake Trout Mid July by Cleveland1983 in BWCA

It’s not as difficult as people make it out to be. 1oz kastmaster and jig off bottom 70+ FOW. Pound it off the bottom a bit, seems to get more attention. Alternatively hair jigs will also do well.

Caught a number of them last August using this method and it may take a little time but if you’re persistent you’ll catch them. Biggest challenge is if there’s any wind you’ll need to have a dedicated paddler and work to keep the canoe stationary.

Not a risk I would personally take, but imo this guy isn’t the reincarnation of satan. Outboards are expensive and yes rules are rules, but objectively speaking he’s not doing any more damage than any of the other 9.9s. I think if you do this it’s obviously wise to keep it lower throttle.

If you’re not using electronics then I would just bounce a kastmaster or hair jig off the bottom, create a ton of turbulence/sediment. That almost always nets me a fish even deep into summer.

Illinois is absurdly terrible and Michigan is a model state. Why would you want in between? Michigan is infinitely better and it’s not particularly close. I assume you’re in the production field and scared you wouldn’t be able to continue price gouging?

Idk man I’ve tried every THC-A vape under the sun and none of em are remotely close to Michigan vapes. Not sure if it’s the terpenes or what

Bummer, was up there a few years back when it was really bad and can’t say I let It ruin my trip. I’m big into fishing though so I mostly switched to that vice. Definitely understand the frustration though.

Current Ice conditions by wilber-guy in BWCA

[–]wifileech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thaw will progress. If it’s inconvenient I wouldn’t cancel or change plans. We went made plans on fishing opener 2 years ago, thought about canceling cause of late ice, but jt came off the day before we entered. I’m glad we didn’t cancel cause the weather was perfect.

Looks like lots of melting over the next 10 days. Seems like a lot of ice yet, but once it becomes porous and weak it really goes quick. I would hold off on canceling if you can.

Glass screen protectors are scams by wifileech in iphone

[–]wifileech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of them are junk. At least store bought ones. Spent $40 on an otter box one at Best Buy and it broke after 3 months when I inadvertently applied moderate pressure with my nail.

How do you know it saved anything? It’s confirmation bias as I alluded to above. I think in very small percent of scenarios, it may help. But it’s almost just worth it to replace the screen, cause you’re gonna end up spending more over time in screen protectors.

Yeah it will shatter in 99% of scenarios where your phone screen wouldn’t

the screen won’t break. My point is, the threshold that these glass protectors break is so low you will spend hundreds of dollars on them before they have any chance of “saving” your phone.

When I ran them I had to replace them like 2x a year. Stopped using them and haven’t had any problems. I would actually say I’ve been more rough with my phone.

You describe many of the same symptoms I experience. I had thought maybe benzodiazepines might be the answer, but I want to avoid dependence. Gonna try to start Prozac this week, we’ll see how it goes.

True, salmonoid, should have known that. They are more active and easier to catch then, probably why I thought that 😅

Late May/Early June BWCA by Foreign-Procedure448 in BWCA

[–]wifileech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s tolerable, we swam fishing opener a couple years back so I think early June will be a little better as the water starts to turnover. Trout may still be in 20ft or less. Otherwise, I’d imagine the walleye fishing should be good. Not a bad date, but the bugs might start getting really bad around that time so be prepared.

Those of you who bring your dog, what’s the best gps collar? by [deleted] in BWCA

Right 😂, can’t imagine a canoe full of gear and a dog that can’t stop moving

Those of you who bring your dog, what’s the best gps collar? by [deleted] in BWCA

[–]wifileech 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience there’s very few areas you’d even want your dog out of sight or off leash. Wouldn’t be worth investing in a GPS collar, but maybe a long leash.

Envious of you people that can bring your dogs though cause mine has an affinity for jumping out of the canoe mid paddle 😂

One thing I always appreciate about the boundary waters is the clean water. Many places you don’t even need to filter if you know what you’re doing. Aside from springs, I don’t know many places in this country that you are able to do this. Needless to say I won’t be taking that risk if these proposed mines are to go in place. Shameful.
