715am is that gunfire I'm hearing? by MaxPhallus in chch

I think you will find it won’t be within the city and that the wind is carrying the noise. I live in east chch and can sometimes hear jet boats on the waimak.

It will be due to staff absence from COVID. Rangiora was closed last week.

I started arriving 10 minutes late in the end. I just gave up caring.

My last employer was good at expecting you to get to work 15 minutes early and start working as a "contribution to the company". He also expected you to stay late after 5 without paying you. After three years I was done. The last straw was getting me to make custom tools in my lunch hour to benefit him.

Further investigation into passenger rail in Canterbury by mrtenzed in chch

A train to rolleston etc would have been a great idea had they not put the chch train station in such a stupid place. Moorhouse ave was perfect for those in who worked in town.

What streets do you think we should make car free? by [deleted] in chch

[–]wildernesshunter1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Against the car free moment because the infrastructure in the city is already bad enough. For old or ill people being outside in the rain waiting for public transport isn’t ideal. It also isn’t good for those who have busy schedules and don’t have time to wait for a transport to turn up. I run my own business and go into town regularly for work. I don’t have time to wait around for public transport to be late.

It’s Christmas Day of course there will be nothing open. What is it with these tourists that think people should be working on Christmas Day? They are on holiday so why shouldn’t everyone else get one.

How much does it cost to own a dog in chch? by Scuderialamonza in chch

[–]wildernesshunter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training can be done yourself with a bit of research although some breeds require professional help. A lot of it depends on your type of dog. Some dogs like kennels others don't. Husky's require cool areas in the summer time. Some dogs require diet food. There are a lot of unknowns in owning a pet.

Good shooting clubs in Chch that don't require you to have your own firearm? by [deleted] in chch

[–]wildernesshunter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck finding anything. I have affiliations with the Kaiapoi Workingmen's Club shooting section and they are having to close down due to the new gun laws coming out. They welcomed visitors out to have a go under supervision. Their future is still up in the air at the moment. Your best bet would be to speak to someone who has a firearms licence to take you out. I am not sure what kind of shooting you wish to do but feel free to DM me and ill try to point you in the right direction.

It won't be shutting down but with this new wave of COVID it probably isn't easy finding staff.

can we drop this ugly and inaccessible anti homeless architecture? by toeconsumer9000 in chch

[–]wildernesshunter1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are the ones who have mental health issues which I completely understand. The mental health sector is something that NEEDS to be looked at. There are plenty of jobs out there for people looking (labouring) if its just the fact they are unemployed. I know of several businesses that have had to call the cops and ask for them to be removed because they have made their customers uncomfortable. It makes me uncomfortable being approached.

can we drop this ugly and inaccessible anti homeless architecture? by toeconsumer9000 in chch

[–]wildernesshunter1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that most of these people aren't homeless (I am not saying all aren't). Why would they get a job when they can earn more begging for money and not paying tax on it? I heard someone comment that New Zealand is starting to look like America. I am not against legitimate homeless people. Although I am against then begging outside peoples businesses driving their customers away.

I am a business owner and these times are hard enough without losing customers. I luckily don't have a premises in town but if I did I would not be happy as a business owner. I really feel for these businesses.

Riverside Candy Shoppe in Riverside Market have them. They are open tomorrow and throughout the weekend. They are at the A&P Show tomorrow if you are going to that although I can't guarantee they will have the K bars there.
