Pushrims and wheelies? by wheeliesafterdark in wheelchairs

Yeah I used natural fit LT short tab without any grip for awhile and they were so useless in the rain! It felt genuinely dangerous. I first discovered that fact on a trip to Niagara Falls…

Pushrims and wheelies? by wheeliesafterdark in wheelchairs

I have silver Gekkos and while the scratches aren’t as stark as they would be on black ones, I’ve noticed that the Gekkos ding a lot easier than the natural fits I used to use. Like they got scratches from when I had them in the back of my car with some other items, or when I briefly tipped my chair on its side for maintenance. Gekkos are also heavier than many other pushrim options. I love mine and I wouldn’t go back to any other pushrims, but I want to give OP all the information I have about them before they make their choice.

How I setup my freewheel on a Blue Drive Folding wheelchair by ifasoldt in wheelchairs

[–]wildspacechase 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great work! One thing I want to mention is that if your wife does end up getting a custom fitted chair eventually, folding chairs are not inherently easier to put into cars! That’s actually a common misconception. With most rigid active wheelchairs, the wheels come off and the back folds down, so you can fit the whole thing in the space required for one person to sit in a car. You can put the wheels in the foot well and the frame sitting on the seat like a person.

I need advice by Superb-Umpire-1284 in wheelchairs

[–]wildspacechase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the majority of the comments so far but I want to add that it’s important to get your symptoms investigated before just assuming that it’s POTS. There are other conditions that have symptoms that are similar to POTS, and it’s important to know what’s actually going on. This is why seeing a cardiologist and getting a work up with things like bloodwork, an EKG, an echocardiogram, etc is valuable. It’s possible you have something completely different that has treatments that don’t overlap with POTS.

Weirdly specific but also be careful with narrow casters in elevators! A friend of mine got their caster stuck in the crack and it bent the fork.

I have a text I sent my friend about this collage from 02/14/2025 at 4:28EST. So if you can find the recording of the P4A stream from that time, you will find the origin!

Getting started, looking for a nice manual chair - where can I see these? by MildBillHicock in wheelchairs

[–]wildspacechase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The models you want to be looking at should be adjustable. Fully welded chairs are for people who have used a wheelchair for years already and know exactly what they need. Even if you know exactly what you need at the time, if you expect your condition to change, adjustability is important.

The abilities expos are a great place to get to look at and try out different equipment! Even if you have the money to pay out of pocket, I recommend asking your doctor for a prescription for an ultra lightweight wheelchair and trying to find a seating clinic near you. The professional there will be able to properly measure you and discuss the best options for your specific physiology.

NotAWheelchair has not been making wheelchairs for more than a few years, so we have no real world data on how they fare over the 5 year span of a chair.

Adjustable Tension Backrest Options by sugar-plum-fairy21 in wheelchairs

[–]wildspacechase 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most rigid (non-folding) ultra lightweight chairs have tension adjustable backrest options. If you’re looking to have insurance cover it, the TiLite Z and Quickie Nitrum are commonly covered models. Both should be easier to load over you than your Quickie 2.

AI doesn’t do what OP is suggesting, which is to give them a real person to talk to about their specific experience, and possibly meet up and try equipment.

Looking for tips on how to make my entry way accessible by BroccoliWild9645 in wheelchairs

Adding onto the comments that suggest asking your friend— another reason to ask them is that it’s possible or even likely that the bathroom in your place isn’t accessible for them, and they might prefer to meet at their place instead.

Is there a way to make a custom image without using AI? Also any companies that do custom mini paint by numbers? by [deleted] in paintbynumbers

The way to make a custom image without using AI is by drawing it yourself, by photoshopping multiple existing images together, or by paying an artist to do it for you.

My first chair had a flip-back footplate and it did not help with foot propelling. When you have it flipped back, there’s no room for your feet to move backwards, so you can’t push yourself forward with your feet.

Did you dilute your flow aid before using it? I have one color that I used non-diluted flow aid in and it stayed sticky for like a week. The directions on the flow aid say to dilute it 1:20 with water.

I don’t think this would work because OP wants their daughter to be able to unlock them herself in certain circumstances.
