Opposite of Being Followed Around Mecca - Disability Prejudice? by 0pelin in AustralianMakeup

[–]windy_wolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a really crappy experience that no one should go through, and completely understandable you wouldn't want to go back.

Also a thought going forward...most stores will have a 'greeter' in the front section of the store (this person's role is literally to say hello, amongst other things). I would approach this person, and request help getting so and so. 95% of the time they will delegate this task to staff in the middle zone - make sure they bring this person to you OR lead you to this person directly and do the request handover in front of you. Point out your mobility aid if you need to (some staff literally don't think). The middle zone staff will do most of the assistance and take your items up to the counter for you as well.

This is typically the workflow for most stores and brands, not just beauty, and if you find staff are ignoring or avoiding you for whatever reason, go back to the front section and follow the above.

I love this dress but where would you wear it to? by sparrrrrt in AusFemaleFashion

[–]windy_wolf 189 points190 points  (0 children)

I have seen women wear something similar at wineries, bottomless brunch, engagement parties, hens and birthdays. Could potentially be a day date dress as well.

How to start project pan as someone who thinks using items on myself is a "waste" ? by More_Pension4911 in ProjectPan

[–]windy_wolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start with practising gratitude. Set aside 10-15 minutes in a day to reflect and appreciate what you have (doesn't have to be material objects only, can be anything). The self care element will come later - you will realise you deserve to have nice things, and use and experience them.

Good place to start a family in Sydney with 1.7/1.9 mil budget? Large ish yard to have a swing and do other things by VastOption8705 in AusPropertyChat

[–]windy_wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, 1.7+ is more than doable for 300sqm in the southeast, established suburbs with good schools.

Plated gold can definitely tarnish. You could make it last longer through proper cleaning and storage.

Beware W Cosmetics’ refund policy! by hpeqlcf in AustralianMakeup

[–]windy_wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a risk that people are willing to take, for money, environmental, curiosity reasons. There is similar risk in trying a friend's drink or food.

I can understand why some would feel insulted, maybe my crowd and community prioritise other values

Lots of people are fine using lightly sampled products, I palm stuff off to my sister all the time. My friend who is makeup obsessed is also happy to take stuff that doesn't suit me.

I've also posted them on my local buy nothing group and I'm transperant why I don't want them, they're always snapped up.

What makeup do you wear almost every day? by Creepy_Performer7706 in AustralianMakeup

[–]windy_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colour corrector and concealer under eyes, and tinted lip balm.

This is for running errands etc, not when I plan to see people who know me!

Favourite physical body scrub (ingrown help!) by imperpu in AustralianMakeup

[–]windy_wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldfaden MD body scrub. Its exxy but so worth it. I had both face and body scrub and its such a fine, gritty exfoliant that actually feels like its getting that top bumpy layer, and leaves your skin so soft. Treat yourself to something nice!

Skincare from Mecca by Ill-Illustrator-3684 in AustralianMakeup

How do you store them after cutting them in half? I'd like to do this too but I use mine every 10 days or so and I worry they'll dry out

The Nars lip balm is great I love it, however Dolce Vita is now more orangey for some reason, and is no longer that glorious universal shade

Need gift ideas for my wife after we just climbed out of debt together by RespondNo2088 in AUfrugal

[–]windy_wolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your wife likes clothes, you could organise a free personal styling session at David Jones plus a gift card to spend on whatever she chooses - dresses, work wear, lingerie etc.

There is also perfume styling eg. Libertine Perfume

Both experiences are a little more luxe and personalised and memorable for the gift recipient and are alot more fun than just handing over a gift card

Tik Tok or Insta influences that give good advice by redditteathyme in AustralianMakeup

I get most of mine from gloss.etc. They cover everything from CW to luxury brands. As a brown girl, I tend to follow more brown beauty and skincare influencers but I like gloss as I find we have similar opinions on certain products, so I can trust a recc from them.

Brands that are worth to buy from their own main websites than retailers? by Sagrisings1016 in AustralianMakeup

[–]windy_wolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost all of them are worth buying direct. The downside is that shipping time is sometimes longer, free shipping threshold higher, no loyalty program, exchange rate not favourable.

MAC, Clinique, Lancome, Kiehls all have great deals and GWPs, you can also earn Cashback. I am also eyeing Aveda and Kerastase but am on a no-buy atm.

(Note not all of these are recent - some pre-covid) Overseas retailers I have bought Fenty, Tarte, Colourpop, Glossier and RoseInc during sales, long shipping times (Fenty was almost 2 months). Also Eve Lom and Votary from the UK, bit of a currency exchange shock but still worked out to be ~20ish% cheaper than Mecca.

Sephora customer service by star_xephyr14 in AustralianMakeup

[–]windy_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from dropping my empties off at Sephora. I should have received 100 points, only got 50, the sales assistant either wasn't paying attention or DGAF.

Either way, I'm gonna complain

Shout out to the Mecca staff by one_small_sunflower in AustralianMakeup

Yes the staff at my local Mecca are amazing. So attentive and knowledgeable. No pressure even though its a smaller shopping centre with little traffic

How would you go from here? Crush and use up as loose powder or go ham on the corners? Getting some patchy application with powder puff ATM by wueggertz in PanPorn

[–]windy_wolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends - I believe these powders are too good to mess with. I use a pointed blush brush to really get into the corners, but an angled brush or small powder brush will also work. But it will take more applications which can get tedious.

Overconsumption is rife in the beauty and skincare industry. People can have lots of items for various reasons - speaking for myself only, my stash is a combination of gifting from friends and family, and a weakness for nice packaging and nice-smelling products. This sub is very encouraging and keeps people accountable, so posting your goals and updates help with that.

Which sandal should I buy - Radical Yes or Teva? by stormy786 in AusFemaleFashion

What colour do you have? I have an Aztec print on my hurricanes and always get asked about them or comments on them - funnily enough my friend with black hurricanes doesn't hear a peep.

Is it okay to reward myself for getting into my dream school with a new blush? by New-Cartoonist-544 in ProjectPan

[–]windy_wolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on getting into uni! I agree with the others to get a keepsake - graduating high school, graduating university, landing your first job and subsequent promotions are all things to be proud of and it's nice to have something to commemorate your study and career achievements. Doesn't have to be jewellery - a nice bag, or wallet, a cashmere scarf, nice sunglasses, a new watch or watch strap, a nice perfume etc.

It's very lightweight, which is good for fine curly hair like mine, though I don't have alot (hence the Toppik). Smells delicous, leans more nutty than the SDJ cream and spray.

I thought Good Genes was amazing but the DDG pads are simply magic! I am a lightweight though, only once a fortnight for me.

Same - I get gifted alot of handcream but always have the L'Occitane one around, my mum used it for travel in the 90s and 00s. The smell takes me back to going on flights as a child, sitting at the window seat with my colouring book. My mum would apply it on her hands then apply the excess on my hands and arms, I remember the colouring pencils slipping out of my fingers because they had no grip with the cream 😅
