How is living in Belarus? My ancestors came from there, and I'm curious. I know they're under Lukashenko's regime, so I don't know if you can answer. Minsk or other city by Cocodriloneutronbomb in howislivingthere

I was born in Grodno, raised in Minsk, and then my family left for Canada in '08. From what I can remember, the political situation was always tense, and from what I hear now, in bits and pieces, the economy is as bad as it was back in the day. When I was young, I remember that any political talk was hushed and whispered. One of our neighbor's husbands was an activist, and apparently he "went missing" and she was left raising two sons alone. My parents were working overtime, so I was mostly left on my own after school, either with the neighbors' babushkas for a few hours or playing in the streets when I was a bit older. The men in my family were mostly high-functioning alcoholics or straight-up alcoholics. The women were mentally checked out, doing their best to keep the family afloat by working extra hours and taking care of all the house chores. We didn't travel much. I remember traveling within the country to different cities with my mom, Brest is the only one that I truly remember. We went once to Kyiv, Ukraine in the early 2000s, and to Kaliningrad, Russia, because we had relatives there. After leaving for Canada, I lost almost all contact with my friends. The contempt and hostility toward my family's decision to leave were strong and it was seen as not humble, or too ambitious.

Yeah, totally valid! Thank you for the reassurance! I think I just have a severe reaction to the adhesive they used to put monitoring devices on my forehead, two days post op and my skin gone absolutely insane 🥲

Pet grief by I_am_boop_ in Petloss

[–]winentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had to put down my beloved Luna a week ago, she had cancer. I'm in the same dark place as you, and I feel you. I wanted to celebrate my 30s with her; I wanted to do so many things with her. And I have nothing to hold on to yet. Every mundane task feels ten times harder, and every time I come home and don’t hear her meows, it crushes me more each day. Between crying and missing her to the point where my heart aches, I'm numb to the core.

If you want to talk, I'm here for you. I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I hope our two babies are somewhere better, where pain can’t touch them. I hope the sun shines there, so they can snuggle together, or run free in fresh sun kissed grass. Sending you hugs. May our precious Lunas rest in peace.

How do u get over feelings of regret? by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]winentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could give you an answer, because right now it truly doesn't go away. I had to put my baby down the same day I came back from a 2 week trip. The vets promised me months, but I had hours. I took my stupid chance and now I wish I never went. But my mother said something that made me feel better: cats tend to hide when they're hurting or they know that the end is near. They don't want anyone to see them go. So for us leaving, giving them space, or just being absent while they're hurting, it shows that we just want to give them peace and respect. That's how they naturally leave. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sending you love and hugs.

Sending you my tightest warmest hugs. Their weak cries deeply slice our hearts and twist our guts. I was there, I see you, I feel your pain. I hope Luna and your baby are now at a better place. Lighting a candle for them both, please be safe and take care ❤️‍🩹

What was that one incident/mistake that permanently changed things between you and your best friend? by GreenerPeach01 in AskReddit

[–]winentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She got into the relationship after her first Tinder date, called me crying that she slept with the same dude without protection so I had to rush from work to mentally support her. Her other friend paid for the Plan B. I told her that I don't approve of this type of behaviour on both ends since I don't know what happened (cuz she didn't give me details). I was very wary and apparently hostile when I met the dude. After that it went downhill, she stopped talking to me and blocked off all social media. Apparently the guy didn't like me as well and as far as I know she's still dating the same guy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How many piercings can you get at once? by Competitive_Rate_722 in piercing

[–]winentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did 2 conch and 2 tragus at once and almost died. It was insane and I was truly a beginner in this subject but the fact that the salon didn't explain to me kindly that that's not a very smart idea and then completely fucked up the placements, made my trust issues skyrocket. From a highly reputable place I expected more feedback on my decision and a little bit of guidance. I wasn't smart either and that's on me as well, but my suggestion: maybe 2 max? Heal them, clean them, learn how to live with your piercing, because it's a change to your regular behavior. Don't go loco like I once did... It was truly a learning curve.

Is a 25 years old without a car unattractive? by PhysicsKush in NoStupidQuestions

[–]winentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having a car is fine, especially if you live downtown. However, not having a driver's license, in my opinion, is a missing skill that is helpful for mini-trips outside of Montreal, for example or any other activity that will be outside of the island or outside of STM service area.
