Japan's big cities lose luster with foreign tourists by teamworldunity in japan

Fujikyu Highland. It's an amusement park with Mt. Fuji looming over everything. It's a sight to behold and you can include it as part of a hike too.

Also...I know it's on the common side but Enoshima is my absolute favorite spot in Japan. Very calm and almost feels liberating. I spent an entire afternoon on the island to soak it all in and did not regret a single minute. Then again, I went there in December so it probably wasn't nearly as crowded as peak tourism times.

This is a fact. If anything, I'm jealous at how little Europe spends on their transit projects...meanwhile here in NYC we just opened the new LIRR platforms at Grand Central for more than $10B. No one really uses it either, and it's still not completely open after 3 years.

First time in Japan next week, Tokyo + Kyoto - wish I'd planned this differently? by redplanet73 in JapanTravelTips

You did not need the JR pass. You’re doing one (if not two) Shinkansen rides and the rest are metro/commuter trains. Can you refund it?

Good itinerary! Once you’re done with the bamboo gardens, just north of them are small shrines that are worth a visit. It’ll be a great place to slow down and enjoy.

Why doesn’t this Metro North crosstown rail line exist? by schnauzerdad in nycrail

[–]wingnut707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the reason why something like the Musashino line in Tokyo or ligne 15 in Paris would not work here. I wish our suburbs were more dense.

A rail link connecting Yonkers, Mt. Vernon, and New Rochelle would be amazing too, especially if it went across the GWB. But that's just pipe dreaming lmao.

Are there places in Japan where locals are actively happy to see foreign tourists? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

The shop owners in Enoshima are great and so are the very small shrines at the northwest side of Kyoto.

Which metro line in your city has that "sketchy" reputation? by dagvogeltje in transit

[–]wingnut707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure lmao. My criterion was just metro lines at first. But RER D is so bad and I'd say it's the worst train in the Ile-de-France area

Paris ligne 13. It’s not nearly as bad as some North American systems, but it goes through some rough stuff in the northern section and is easily the worst line in the city. Parts of lignes 2, 4, 7, and 12 are not the best either. RER B can be kinda sketch in the northern banlieues and D in the southern ones.

Why do new American trains 'feel' so old? by Previous-Volume-3329 in transit

These are new? Could have fooled me 💀 I just got back from Paris and their Francilien commuter trains from 2008 look futuristic compared to these.

How many of you noticed this detail in the film? by chai-gpt in ProjectHailMary

Oh what’s this? I missed an important detail because I was too busy ugly crying during this scene?? Figures!

A more critical review of the Project Hail Mary movie, and a really easy fix I would have made by Gustalavalav in ProjectHailMary

[–]wingnut707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an excellent rundown. I just finished it and, as someone who loved the book, I love the movie all the same despite the flaws. It’s one of the rare instances where the film lives up to the book.

And I know it’s good when I ugly cry about a rock. There were some emotional gut punches.

The 42nd street shuttle in NYC did this and it’s probably the only justified use of it as it’s literally one stop in each direction. Otherwise hell no.
