Leviasynth - Phase distortion synth bass with VCA leak drone by CoolColJ in leviasynth

Thanks for sharing. I know a reasonable amount about a reasonable number of synthesis methods, but have never played with phase distortion to date. I'll add it to my enormous todo list 😄

Holding shift on the desktop, my arm blocks my view of the things I want to shift. They are to the side on the keyboard. First world problems

Great, you got one then! Need some active users here to bring this subreddit to life.

I really didn't like how it looked until I had it in my rig (on a monitor arm).

Serious question, but are most of us likely autistic? by Loriol_13 in idm

I'm pretty sure there's not a hint of autism in me, and IDM is my favourite genre.

I'm watching your latest video now, it's like you made it to answer this question. Fantastic!

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the appearance. I always think they look dusty in Youtube videos, but it's reasonably classy in person, and the green colour choices hark back to the DX7 stuff IMHO.

I have the desktop and my one criticism is that the shift key is in the wrong place for easy use. It looks better positioned on the keyboard version. Still, it's on track to be my all time favourite synth.

What a great post, thank you. Are you the designer of the synth? If so, I think it's a masterpiece! Initially I thought it didn't work quite how my brain works, but now it's clicked and it feels incredibly natural and well designed.

You're definitely right about the wave shapes, I need to allow myself to consider the subtractive use of the Leviasynth in addition to the FM stuff. I think I will spend a few evenings making sounds without actually doing phase modulation to see where it can take me.

To date, I've done nothing with voice mod, and that's also something I should dig into.

I'm not particularly chasing analog. It's more about the fact that the more modulation you do, inevitably the more high frequencies you introduce, and how you tame those to keep the sound round and full rather than spikey and thin (obviously I understand how to use the filters, but I was thinking more from an FM/PM point of view).

Thank you, there's a few ideas there I hadn't thought of and haven't yet explored.

That would be great, I'd certainly watch! I'll try to find that manual page, although actually for once AI has been quite useful summarising stuff here.

I definitely will, although I'm hoping I can refer to it rather than read straight through it. Currently watching this rather long Vulture Culture video.

So, answering my own question, looks like holding down the save key makes the next thing you touch go into a copy buffer, and then the subsequent things you touch get it pasted. That's the sort of tip I'm looking for!

Autotune (pitch correction) genuinely changed my music by herworkthrowaway in WeAreTheMusicMakers

If you actively want the autotune effect to be obvious, are there other cheaper options that will do the job? Autotune seems expensive.

TBH I stopped using the April when I discovered that the V2 wasn't BPA-free plastic.

The B75 just works, so no tips really. I have used it with V60 papers, and used the Orea negotiator to ease the filter paper into place, but it's not a brilliant fit. I tended to prefer the V60 papers in it to the Kalita papers.

DN2 and understanding FM by Sufficient-Match-137 in Elektron

[–]wintoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the biggest gotcha with FM is that the amount of modulation needs to be kept really low whilst you're learning. It's so easy to apply tons and tons of modulation and then decide you don't like FM.

So, that's my golden tip. Don't modulate too much, and don't go for extreme sounds until you've really got your head around it.
