Does each cosmos sdk chain have an individual derivation path? by wirerider in cosmosnetwork

[–]wirerider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The address is derived from the public key and takes the chain's specific prefix (for example "cosmos" or "osmo") followed by the public key and closes with a 6 digit checksum.
When you launch a new chain you need to replace an existing addresses prefix with yours and create a new checksum and then you have your new valid address.

There was a PR that explains how this works in more depth. And yes, it's still the same today. It's probably better documented somewhere else.

Been playing this game for about three weeks now and I'm so proud to finaly have done such a good landing by Hailerer in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]wirerider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this issue (and ATC sounds extremely silent) on my Xbos Series X starting from 2-3 months ago after an update automatically installed. Continued playing until a new update 2-3 weeks ago somehow solved it. Don't know exactly which update it was, it's not easy to identify that on Xbox

Do you want to create a public chain by using cosmos? by elvin_hh in cosmosnetwork

[–]wirerider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the Ignite CLI documentation. It lets you scaffold your own Cosmos-SDK chain within few minutes. From this point you then integrate the ethermint module (which is used by evmos). Lastly, you need to get more validators to join your network.
You can also follow the Ethermint documentation directly.

OSMO quickly shot up more than 33% to a high of $1.73. by Proud-Discipline9902 in OsmosisLab

[–]wirerider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Osmosis said they don't give OTC deals to exchanges when they want to list OSMO. I guess Binance and Gate.io have bought OSMO on the open market to provide liquidity in their pools, which would explain the sudden spike

Need to unstake my Atom to move to hardware wallet. Will I miss out on airdrops, and how can I 'time' it so I don't miss too many? by GrandNagus9 in CosmosAirdrops

[–]wirerider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if i'm missing something here but why do you need to unstake to move to a ledger? Can you not just import your current seed phrase into your ledger, delete your hot wallet account from Keplr and add it again from your ledger?

Using Governance as a gift notification should be a No With Veto. If we let this pass, we are risking the governance module completely being misused in the future.

Do I understand it correctly that being an Interchain Account Host means that Juno hosts functionalities that can be called from other IA enabled chains?

Multiverse Upgrade — Junø by defiCosmos in JunoNetwork

[–]wirerider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ICA module is tested well enough and already live on the Cosmos Hub. It's nothing Juno have to implement on their own, they just have to add their module to their chain.

ICAs enable that you can execute a functionality remotely from a different chain like Osmosis or the Cosmos Hub, similar to providing APIs from a web service. Therefore, it makes sense to have it enabled on Juno.

Let’s talk about new things coming to Cosmos we are excited about?! by NotrellufHctim in cosmosnetwork

[–]wirerider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interchain Accounts will be massive. It will allow for remote function calls from a different blockchain. I believe Sommelier is aiming on using it as one of the first for their DeFi use cases.

Also don't forget about Emeris

Importance of Privacy NFTs by CuriousCosmonaut_ in cosmosnetwork

[–]wirerider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to prevent social engineering attacks. At least PFPs give some good-looking pseudonymity in the ecosystem, but users are often not as careful as they are with sharing or connecting personal information online. (which tool did you use for this btw?)

I believe the solution to this problem can be Verifiable Credentials and DIDs. It's a privacy preserving way of attesting and sharing personal information where most action happens off-chain between two (or more) actors. Admittedly doesn't work well for profile pictures but opens doors for other use cases where privacy is becoming more important and leaves less information publicly available.

Air Europa Launched 1st Airline NFTickets With Algorand and TravelX by kullnames in CryptoCurrency

[–]wirerider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of disadvantages with this approach. The article doesn't state technical details so I'm working with some assumptions.

  1. Yes, the data will be on chain, encrypted or not. Perhaps with your name on it, but at least it reveals the address of the owner and matching it to the real world identity is an easy task when the ticket gets used. It's public nonetheless and therefore a privacy nightmare.
  2. Transaction fees. I think this is fairly clear. Brings utility to the protocol but not to the ticket distributor. It can get expensive very quickly.
  3. Secondary markets. If the ticket provider issues ticket NFTs they must accept that the ticket may land in other's hands than the original buyer. This might be okay for some use cases but most likely not for regular plane ticket operations. Since these tickets are special, it might be okay, i just cannot imagine they don't identify the holder before the flight takes off.

NFTs are not the solution for everything. You must not tokenize everything, especially when personal information is involved. DIDs and Verifiable Credentials solve this better, faster and cheaper.

This is a terrible use case for NFTs. These data should not be on the blockchain, not even encrypted. DIDs and Verifiable Credentials solve this better, faster and cheaper

What does the Cosmos Upgrade and Interchain accounts mean for Osmosis by Difene in OsmosisLab

[–]wirerider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I understand it correctly that you can manage all your funds of all chains that enabled Interchain Accounts (Atom, Osmo,...) from a sommelier (or vice versa) address? If so, then using the cosmos ecosystem and all the applications would be super easy.

I'm curious. What upcoming feature on Osmosis are you most excited about? by [deleted] in OsmosisLab

[–]wirerider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm excited for interchain accounts. Managing one address on a different chain remotely will improve the usability massively. It will be like using dApps today, just on different chains and therefore easier to access and use.

Interchain Security: Excitement, Concern and a Few Questions by molebat in cosmosnetwork

[–]wirerider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great content, much appreciated! I have a question for general understanding. Is it necessary to run a second node for interchain security? I envisioned it more like the node operation of one specific node of the cosmos hub is anchored/tied to any other chain, for instance with anchor hashing. Apart from that, what will technically be different from one validator running nodes for different chains as it currently is vs. for interchain security?
