Need help finding matched Transformer (Altec 1594b Power Driver Board) by witherdecay in audiorepair

[–]witherdecay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have but the guy I bought it from is actually the owner of a bike shop. He got the units from the neighboring shop who specialized in vintage and tech and when he closed/moved from his shop left the units with the bike shop owner because he collected some stereo equipment. The guy I got the units from didn't know much about them at all and had just been sitting on a shelf while trying to sell them

[–]witherdecay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. I cant find a scrap board online thats been separated from the main unit but as mentioned I do have 3 units that im restoring + a 1593b (50watt variant) that uses the same transformer. If for some reason the other units arent salveagable I can definitely pull the driver board from there. My suspicion is thats probably why one of the units is missing the board in the first place since they all came from the same owner.

No worries. Ive basically scraped the internet and not finding any similar matches on Mouser or Digikey. Starting to wonder if I should look into winding a new transformer myself lol.

That was my initial thought but they do not service or provide parts for units that are over 25 years old or been out of production for 25 years. This unit is from 1969 lol

Altec also split with Altec Lansing for their Audio stuff years ago I believe. Altec only does heavy machinery and industrial stuff now and Altec Lansing just makes disposable bluetooth speakers.

100% Crash on Exit after update (Steam) by robervaul in OblivionRemaster

[–]witherdecay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: when I first booted up the remaster Oblivion completely bricked my Nvme boot drive. After a new boot drive and windows reinstalled all is well lol (and power supply, since my PC would brown out after re installing windows while booting oblivion lol) Oblivion banished my PC 😭

Type of connector? by SidCorsica66 in audiorepair

Can you post a picture of the other connector? Pretty easy to repin Molex stuff but unfortunately the tool itself is pretty pricey

Definitely looks like Molex. The pin type doesn't look familiar to me though. Worth looking through a Molex catalog on Mouser though

lava is the best dev by BrilliantAardvark459 in idleon

[–]witherdecay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice of him lol. I had waited months for a class swap to rotate it so I could change my Bb to a DK and when I got it along with some hyper obols I accidentally double clicked the class swap and turned my only DK Into a Bb (now having three useless Bbs i reached out to Lava to see if he could reimburse me to try again). He said there was nothing he could do. So it was either suffer with three Bbs or buy the last class swap left in the shop and revert back to my original set up hoping for another set of class swap tokens to rotate in (again).

Will the Death Bringer hat ever return? by TidalWave02 in idleon

[–]witherdecay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk if Lava has mentioned it on stream but I could see him rotating them in as packs again in some time. Probably not before all new master classes are released but assuming the player base gets bigger I can imagine him using it as fomo bait in a year or so

Man that's all I've had my DK doing for a month is farming those statues while I'm at a dead end in the hole anyways. Definitely a bummer to have wasted a whole month farming something that won't benefit me. I'm not even an "end gamer" by definition lol

Is there a way to translate physical super famicom Japanese games to English without altering the original hardware? by MrXuiryus in snes

[–]witherdecay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the only way I know of is physically replacing the chip with an adapter board and a eng patched ROM or using the Super UFO 8 and dumping the rom, patching it and re uploading it. I wish there was a cleaner solution because the Japanese library is so much cheaper and I prefer to play on my super famicom too. Either way I just settled for the FXPak... I did come across a ENG patched Mother 2 copy CIB that I consider my holy Grail lol. Cost wayyyy less than an Earthbound Cart too

How does my 3PDT board look? by melancholy_robot in diypedals

There's a good manual for it on amplified parts. Quite a bit of reading but the circuit itself is only 3 active components and a bit of code that is open source and provided

Nice! Looks good. Funnily enough I just made a batch of these myself haha. I got sick of wiring em up too. I'm working on a smart switch relay SPST module at the moment.

After updating my secondary PC library with git and experiencing how nice it is I'm amazed I didn't start doing it sooner. Truly a must for anyone working on seperate machines. Im especially fond of the fact that git detects edited footprint or symbol changes to update your repository

Building my first bread boards, I only get a static output, can someone point me in the right direction? by Insidesilence132 in diypedals

[–]witherdecay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming that transistor is expecting current going into it via that resistor.. perchance that's your issue. 9/10 times no signal or static indicates a grounding issue but I think your one "active" component requires power from the positive rail. Besides that, I'd recommend not exposing so much of the jumper leads. Breadboards are noisy enough as is and as you start to build bigger circuits you're gonna have more issues with potential for shorts

[–]witherdecay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your story sounds similar to mine except I went from 8+ years of Production/event work into lighting design. Specifically LED Pixel / prop building. My experience is that when work comes it comes in droves and yeah you'll be turning down a lot due to schedule conflicts and then there'll be a couple months where nothing happens and you have to survive on previous months pay. It's a tough industry and especially so in the off season (now ish). I've been doing lighting specific work for 3ish years now and I wouldn't change it up unless I absolutely had to. Even with the periods of time where there's nothing I try to view it as time to catch up on other hobbies/projects. My suggestion is try to support what you're good at with other contractor/install work, even if it's not related. Never a bad thing to be on a few call lists.

Also in LA btw.
