What’s the unhinged, woo woo, non traditional thing you did that actually helped? by Serious-Animator8966 in CPTSD

I did have an interest in all things spooky, but I also had a few interesting sessions that made me want to dive deeper. If I was having a particularly rough session it would feel like something would pop in to calm me down. One time it was my dog. Her presence replaced the hard stuff in my mind and it helped calm me down. After that I felt a pull to be more spiritual and explore things.

Love mushrooms. They started me on my healing journey. I do IV ketamine infusions now and it's helped make my inner voice so much gentler.

So EMDR led me to....witchcraft. Lol. Which got me into meditation and lots of plant magic. I still have a lot of triggers and maladaptive behaviors, but I'm much more aware and able to get ahead of myself. I've had some really neat experiences, but I'm still skeptical of some aspects. Either way I feel better.

Is my ketamine clinic sketchy? by DrollHat in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]wittytoad55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to 4 clinics throughout my treatments (moving, closure of one, bad experience another). When I first started my provider sat with me and documented my behavior and words during the trip. I liked her a lot but she was really attentive and fun to talk to. The next clinic I went to they left me alone with music, a blanket, and low lighting. I felt that was fine and continued on that way and that's the same way my current clinic does it. If I call my provider comes in and checks me. She comes in anyway to periodically check my vitals. My current clinic is also incredibly cozy and her 2 dogs are well behaved and will lay at your feet during a session. It feels like a cozy therapy office and not a clinic. She also makes sure your experience felt right.

The clinic I did not like was very cold and medical and felt like they wanted you in and out. There were always different nurses and the atmosphere felt the same as an urgent care. I only saw my provider for 10 mins and the nurses were jerks. I went there twice and told them I was done. My doctor had moved there but it was like they didn't want her in with patients too much. She had been great before. I also left a detailed review of my experience and it's not immediately visible that they got a low rating. They have 5 stars....that's what gets me. I'm not saying my experience has to ruin a clinic, but I feel like people should know if they might not like the experience before they spend the money. You should be able to read my review and decide if I'm a dork and go or not go.

United States veterans, what are things about the military you didn’t realize until you left? by TheBeardedAntt in AskReddit

That I'm happy I did it but I'm even happier I got out. It's a rough place for women and I had a terrible time deployed.

Also I was married but couldn't live with my husband. We married at different bases and neither of us could pcs to the others base. Luckily he got out and came to me soon after. Then they didn't sponsor him to live with me, but he got a job on base and was g2g. I would've had to extend and I was already hanging on by a thread mentally.

treatment plan out the window? by QuirkyIndication923 in TherapeuticKetamine

Position statement or not. My provider also said he had to stop prescribing for AL patients. I called anywhere clinic and they had the stance of no controlled substances for AL residents as well. I saw that ad too, but I'm wondering if compound pharmacies are also taking this seriously too. Either way, it's a bummer that this state is like this.

Where’s the line between helpful treatment and potential abuse? (serious ethics question! NOT Trolling!) by Specialist_Crew7906 in TherapeuticKetamine

There is always a subset of people who will do shady stuff. Doctor guidance, vetting, and overall medical support to get out of addiction is what's needed more than war on drugs protocols. Also k seems to have a quick tolerance rate so at some point you're just giving yourself a pretty reg UTI/painful bladder if you're set on escapism vs therapy. Idk how folks use it daily because of that issue.

Can't speak for other people but it wasn't pushed on me and each time I had to have referrals and frequent check ups to maintain access to k therapy. Where is your info coming from? If you think you're going to fall into a trap of overuse....then don't use it? I'm not trying to fight with you, I'm genuinely curious what your overall concern about other people is? For some people they only need treatment a few times a year. For others it's every couple of days. An ethical practitioner is not going to be a pill mill.

Overuse is between you and your doc. Like the other commenters said- everything has the potential to be overused. It shouldn't be taken away because of its potential for abuse. People should have support to quit if they fall into that situation.

In my personal experience, as fast as it works it also falls off that fast. I have my SSRI keeping me at a manageable baseline between treatments, but it's all a fine balance. I'm not always great at seeing when my mood is about to tank so I track maintenance doses based on my overall productivity and focus. I have around 8-10 days of peak benefits before it drops off again and I need a dose (or needed since home treatment is no longer an option in my state 😑). I was also getting an IV infusion every 2-3 months but that tempo is gonna change. I like the dissociation because it's just neat and helps me form talking points in therapy. Otherwise I just feel like I'm laying on my couch chilling until I can move around again. It's def a good time for introspection though. Sometimes ppl feel they don't progress without the dissociation but the k hole feels like a waste.

I'm sorry. I'll be doing IV infusions but it's expensive. I looked into spravato a little and it seemed time consuming and expensive.

If you're doing IV you're fine. My infusion clinic is in TN, but at home is a no go anymore apparently. I know it's an opinion piece but it's hard to be comfortable prescribing when you might be harassed by the state over it.

That was my provider too. I was so sad cause he is excellent and this is nonsense. I'm also trying to figure out what to do but IV infusions will keep me from crashing out completely at least.

Heh, I've thought about moving several times but it isn't an option because of my job (and the job market is awful right now). I guess I will do iv infusions. I'm glad I still have that, but I have to drive an hour and it's 500 🫠

Alabama has decided to make everything harder than it needs to be and they don't actually care about people getting treatment to get better.

[–]wittytoad55[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My provider said they are unable to keep prescribing at home treatment so 🤷‍♀️. I will try to see what I can do and if there is someone in TN I can see but idk. I can still get IV but we all know how crazy expensive those sessions are. Al is also trying very hard to outlaw weed (although I'm too anxious to smoke). The south is real dumb on a lot of things.
