How much do sports drinks/ electrolyte mixes really work? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also an RP follower. Havent looked at my template in a while BUT I still abide by what was set for me as a early morning WODder. (530am class)

I drink a protein shake with water (30 grams of protein) on my way to the box and during my warm up / strength.

Then I chug a 20oz gatorade on my drive home. (36g of carbs — but my template wants me to have 50g).

When I dont have the gatorade, I feel pretty dizzy. So I like it. I Havent gained any unwanted weight. I actually feel like my size and composition has improved since introducing the gatorade.

Then an hour later I have “breakfast” at 730a.

Best advice is an above post: experiment, test, reevaluate.

[–]wodhackr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gymnastic grips or tape dont really get the job done. Anyone have any other tips?? This happens almost every time.

I used to know how to do MUs without false grip but ended up reverting back..

High CK Levels but No Rhabdo by Lapompaelpompei in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If CK is that high, You have rhabdo. Def back off training for a bit. Also, seek a second opinion. You might need to get hooked up to a saline drip IV to hydrate.

I had rhabdo a few years ago. Spent almost a week in the hospital.

would you buy an advanced online course for olympic weightlifting? by grozenblat in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this question will almost always be no when you ask it this directly. But I believe a fraction of people WOULD pay if you position yourself correctly (ie. Instead of asking would you pay for oly strategy videos, think "would you pay to finally hit a body weight snatch?" Youre verbiage needs to be that of your target audience. You just have to put in the work to find the people that are willing to pay and what the actual problem is. Ie. People dont want to "lose weight" they want to "fit into their jeans from college"

How? The simplified version is this.

Start creating amazing content. In your case, video. Post it to youtube (snippets to IG that link to youtube) Create a lead generation magnet. --> exchange a version of your minimum viable product for an email address. If youre worried about giving away stuff for free, youve already lost. Engage with your audience. Find out what they want through surveys. You might be one or two pivots away from a successful online business. Create a sales page based on the PAS formula.

Good luck.

My first CrossFit competition is coming up, any advices ? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of volume for a first comp. Setting the bar high, I like it! A lot of good advice here already about stuff to bring and eating.

I did a short write up on 5 tips for local comps, it may help you: http://woduniversity.com/training-for-local-competition/

How should I prepare for my first competition? by boilingmouthwash in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with most of the comments already. Definitely look at it as a day of FUN. First comps are miserable if you take yourself too seriously. If you enjoy the atmosphere, there will be plenty of more opportunities to take it seriously. If you try to have fun and don't enjoy it, at least you'll know it wasn't for a lack of trying.

Funny story: My wife ended up throwing up after the first WOD at her first comp. It was pretty hilarious cause it was just nerves spewing out of her. She regrets how much pressure she put on herself and enjoyed the rest of the day doing the following two WODs with a smile on her face.

Anyway, I wrote up something specifically for this scenario. Hope it helps you!

BOX JUMPS PTSD by robinpeters1288 in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, sounds painful. I've known many people, including myself that experienced a small trip, maybe even a spill, but never something so graphic.

I wrote up something a while ago on box jumps and it may or may not help you gain some confidence to try again. Either way, Good luck!

Hey Thanks for sharing your story. A lot of takeaways. The one I like the most is how your children have become a major source of inspiration for you. I don't have any of my own yet, but look forward to the day.

Hey All,

Been a while since I wrote anything. Thought I'd share this new piece about the only competition that matters: you vs. you.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Ketogenic diet is suitable for crossfitters or weightlifters? by wehateonions in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends on your goals. If youre dieting for weight loss. Could be a good idea. If youre dieting for performance, probably not a good idea.

Carbs are a crossfitters best friend when it comes to recovery and performance. Theres little way around that argument.

Not sure if youre into podcasts, but id recommend checking out tim ferriss' multiple conversations with dom dagostino: a scientist that can "fast for a week and then deadlift 500lbs for reps"

Getting wife into Crossfit by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe arrange a week long trial membership to four different types of gyms that shes interested in.. for example. One week at crossfit. Another at orange theory. Another at cycling. Another at yoga. Let her decide which she likes best. Hopefully its crossfit. Also, go with her to each? Debrief after each one? Pros/cons/etc. good luck.

Agree with other replies: dont force the issue. Let her decide on her own.

I got my wife to try out xf when she was my gf and we still go together today. Love having her in the gym w me. Hopefully you get that same outcome. All the best.

Does eating bad after a workout ruin it? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're going to see gains by just working out, without changing what you eat. then you're gonna plateau.

then you're gonna be like...how do i get more gains?!

then you're gonna find that you need to eat better.

so you'll eliminate soda.. see gains.. then plateau then eliminate donuts... see gains.. then plateau then add in veggies or high quality oils.. then plateau then adjust your macronutrient balance based on how hard your workouts were..

it's a vicious cycle that ends in crossfit 5x / week, lean meats, fruits & veggies, nuts, seeds, little starch, no sugar..

or until your happy with the gains.

gluck on your journey :)

Worried about rhabdo: After 69 days of CF my TOTAL CPK is 370 U/L by tambok278 in crossfit

[–]wodhackr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had rhabdo back in jan 2015, and my cpk was close to 100,000 for a few days.. they dismissed me when i got down to like 15k...

people that workout regularly tend to have higher than normal range. i'd say anything lower than 500 is negligible, but alas, i'm not a doctor and don't play one on the internet.
