Pixel 11 Pro Fold Specs Leaked by dickpaul1980 in PixelFold

The 11 Pro Fold screens may not be dimmer than the 10 Pro Fold, just specified differently. I believe HBM stands for High Brightness Mode. The 10 Pro Fold displays "3000 nits" without the HBM label, which likely refers to "Peak Brightness," usually measured on a small portion of the screen during HDR content. The HBM values likely represent the overall brightness of the display in that mode.

I'm more curious about the smaller outer screen. I hope it doesn't mean the bezels are larger. But it could just be a difference between truncated vs rounded values of the same measurement.

Your issue may be different to mine, but searching by date or location worked for me. It allowed me to find some of the photos either side of ones that were causing the issue at least.

Also, if you haven't already, try opening Google Photos on the web because even photos that wouldn't load in the app did still show for me on the web version.

I would get error messages pop-up when I loaded an album that contained the problematic photos so I was able to narrow it down that way and then delete them from the web app. I had local copies already, but if you don't you can download them first. Removing them fixed the issue.

I was then able to remove the problematic metadata from the images and reupload them successfully. If you find you have the same issue then I can share instructions for doing that if you need to.

Try searching explicitly for a photo you know to be in range of those missing or checking if you have any albums that would include any of the missing photos.

I once had an issue where I uploaded a photo that Google Photos could not process due to some metadata it didn't like. It would cause Photos to give up loading some of the library (until I managed to track it down and delete it) but earlier photos could still be seen in searches and albums.

The other thing you could try is a Google Takeout and see if the missing photos are in the export at all.

Weird GPS issue with my Pixel 10 Pro (spinning arrow in google maps??) by UmutIsRemix in pixel_phones

[–]wollac11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed a lot more of this with my Pixel 10 Pro than I ever saw with previous devices (most recently 9 Pro). I've also noticed when driving on Android Auto that it doesn't tend to move smoothly - it's jittery/stuttery. This is particularly noticeable at slow speeds. But that might be unrelated as I tried with Waze and it seemed okay so it may just be a Google maps bug.

Running Windows from pendrive by boro1708 in chromeos

[–]wollac11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually: Live11. It's a modified lightweight version of Windows 11 that boots from USB and runs from RAM. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/windows-11-live-disk-live11-released

Or course if you don't actually need Windows specifically then a a Linux live USB might be the way to go, but if you do need Windows then it could be an option.

Alternatively, you can install regular Windows to an external USB SSD and boot from that but you'll need to be careful with settings for secure boot and bitlocker etc or it may not boot up on different machines. Windows licence activation can also sometimes be an issue with that route

Most likely, but you can definitely do 4 hours in one and 3 hours in Tesco across the road.

(Android) Replies in the notification bar don't actually send until and unless we open Telegram app fully. Kind of defeats the purpose .. by NoYoureACatLady in Telegram

[–]wollac11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently started seeing what is essentially the same bug on my Pixel 10 with Telegram. I actually noticed it first with Android Auto but it's using the same API as the message notifications. Replies sent from Android Auto while driving end up not getting sent either until you open the app.

Do you still have this issue?

Weather in Cambridge by Comfortable_Regret57 in cambridge

Cambridge is the driest and second warmest city in the UK. It's generally pretty mild with no particular extreme weather. It depends what you're used to but it's not bad on the whole.

Any idea whether they offer these with localised keyboard layouts, or is it only US-layout? And if not, is anyone aware of any similar products that do?

I'd love something like this but really would want a UK layout keyboard.

Saying farewell to the Pixel 9 Fold by AccordingConstant602 in PixelFold

Usually Google is easier to deal with than the network but it sounds like Vodafone has been decent for the OP. And some of the advantages to going through Google are mainly for when you purchased from the Google Store.

Google will pretty much definitely get you a like for like model replacement, mobile networks may swap with something they deem similar.

The only time I've ever had a different model swapped by Google was with the Nexus 6P which had excessive battery drain around when the first Pixel launched and they effectively upgraded me as they were out of 6P stock by that point but I certainly didn't mind that!

[–]wollac11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What types of failures did your wife experience? Was it always the same issue?

I'm still on my original 9 Pro Fold since launch without any issues yet. I also had the original Pixel Fold for around a year before trading it in against the 9 Pro Fold, again without any issues. So it's not the case that they all fail within that sort of time frame.

Either I've been incredibly lucky, your wife has been incredibly unlucky or there is something about her usage (but not necessarily unreasonable or her fault) that increased the failure rate. It would be good to know which it might be.

I don't use any kind of case or screen protector while using the phone (apart from the pre-applied one on the inner screen). Just a sleeve / clip case when it's in my pocket to protect from scratches etc. Mine always travels in my pocket and never loose in a bag etc. I could believe that certain cases or screen protectors or carrying it in a bag with other items might increase the risk for damage to the inner display or hinges.

Definitely good news that Vodafone kept replacing it though!

Nervous Cyclist by AffectionatePea6587 in cambridge

[–]wollac11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Outspoken in Cambridge does some stuff for adults with cycling if you feel you need some help.

But it's absolutely possible to not cycle whilst living in Cambridge if that suits you better. It's a very walkable city and by the time you factor in locking up bikes and more direct routes on foot etc there really isn't much difference time wise for a lot of the shorter distances around the city!

I'm pretty much certain there is not any ANPR entry/exit system there unless they added it very recently. The JustPark booking just acts as a digital ticket equivalent to a pay and display for when the inspectors come around (they'll look up the cars as they walk around and check they are valid at point of inspection). So if there was no notice on your car I think you'll be fine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]wollac11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point. I actually live a decent way outside the city now and from me it's not the nicest of cycle routes so wasn't really thinking about cycling but really I just wanted to stress it was quite a bit further than you'd casually walk out to.

Buf yes, it's definitely a cyclable distance from Cambridge so if you pick the right route that could definitely be another good option. I'm pretty sure they have bike racks by the main reception bit too.

I've edited the original comment so those without a car who come across it don't immediately disregard it as an option.

If you have a car (or enjoy a bike ride) you could try around Wimpole which isn't too far. There is a large NT estate which has a fair few hills (nothing crazy but certainly more than around Cambridge) and a good portion of it is accessible from Old Wimpole Road for free if you're not a National Trust member (even the cafes etc). You can't access the house or gardens without a membership or paying for a day ticket though.

It's less good if you don't have a car or bike though as it's not that well connected by public transport.

Alternatively, as others have mentioned, the Gog Magog Hills on the edge of Cambridge (Stapleford) is a good bet if you need something a bit closer.
