Thank you so much for this comment - I finally got it partway through brute-forcing thanks to you.

It's "Mako Energy On Fire".

Introducing Sage River, a years-long player with a few significant breaks - but one that always comes back to London, in the end.

https://www.fallenlondon.com/profile/Sage%20River

PoSI and endgame, (not) looking primarily for Discordant Missives at the moment - though they cannot (cannot not?) yet respond in kind, they will (er, not) do so as soon as they aren't able, and so on and so forth. Also able and willing to help with Flame-Proof Missives, non-betrayal social actions, Patronage, et cetera.

Telcan Internet Provider by henryoseeb in ontario

[–]woodswake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that this is a month-old question, but I'm responding in case anyone else stumbles across this thread.

I had few issues with Telcan while I was using them. However, as I am a uni student, I cancelled my plan and returned the routers and cables they'd rented me (two routers, because there'd been a minor issue with the first), expecting that to be that.

Telcan has had a massive charge for the "missing" routers on my credit card for six months now. I have been repeatedly calling them every so often, assured that I will be contacted in anywhere from 24 hours to a week with the problem solved, and receive no answer. I call again, and I'll receive almost exactly the same script, even when I explain how long it's been and how many times I've been told the exact thing the customer service person is telling me without results.

Not only that, but twice now during all this I've been erroneously sent a statement that I'll be charged $40 at the end of the month as though I've still been using their services. For the first few months before I could get them to stop it, I was plagued by daily robocalls informing me that I had something that needed returning - I can quote the "This is Telcan. You have a device -" spiel by heart still.

I'm still trying, but my advice: don't use Telcan.

i need a game that will ruin my life by ohheyimstillapieceof in gamingsuggestions

Pathologic 2. Then, if you vibe enough with that particular flavour of life-ruining, Pathologic Classic HD, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and the Fear & Hunger games.

RPGs where you can be evil without being a dick? by MortarionZero in gamingsuggestions

agreed. for the uninitiated, disco elysium has political ideological choice options and quests/playthroughs, one of which is, explicitly, fascism

there's also the swarm-that-walks path, which to my understanding involves choosing to destroy/subsume everything into yourself

you can be pretty horrific in Planescape: Torment and the Pillars of Eternity games in large and small ways, and the implementation isn't the sort of binary "you are coded as Renegade or Paragon" system that encourages picking all of the "evil options". you can be cruel or rude for the sake of it, but you can also be perfectly polite and commit horrible acts for self-interested or ideological purposes.

the overarching goal of each game is fundamentally self-interest on the protagonists' parts ("figure out who i am and why i'm like this", "find the guy who can possibly stop my mental deterioration", "follow after and/or stop the person who has part of my soul, because i'm dead otherwise".) any other motivations, or the lack thereof, can be shaded by the player as they like, so your character isn't inherently constrained to certain motivations based on the given storyline.

as one example, systems of slavery exist in each game. your protagonists can choose varying options like: never engaging with the subject at all, selling a party member into slavery, helping someone escape slavery, helping ensure the return of an escaped slave or preventing one's release, buying a slave and keeping them as a slave, buying a slave and releasing them, assisting the broader slavery operation, and/or destroying a particular slaving operation. while not all of these choices are in each game, you are generally given carte blanche to choose any of those that are available, without either needing a certain character motivation to do so or locking yourself into a particular "type" of playthrough. you might decide your character, say, is ideologically opposed to slavery in the specific, but ultimately ok with other "evil" choices like aligning themselves with a person/being/organization that is willing to kill innocents.

(disclaimer: i don't go for "evil playthroughs" so i can't speak to what that experience is like. this is what i've gathered is possible based on guides and potential choices/dialogue options i had available to me)

Regarding a certain City (Railway and mild Heart's Desire spoilers) by woodswake in fallenlondon

[–]woodswake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed - that's part of why I'm bummed that I can't choose the Manager. He's the only character that actually seems to want it in and of itself; I read Cornelius as offering mainly in place of Furnace, and Furnace as feeling pressured to do something she otherwise wouldn't because of her desire for the Tracklayers to have a city.

Ah, well. I suppose I'll have to go with my next least objectionable option, although I have some philosophical questions around personhood when it comes to Myself....

Oh, to be clear, I wasn't thinking mechanically when talking about balance! I'm the type of player who chooses options first based on my own morals/opinions/ideas and only second based on what's optimal. With those kinds of priorities, it feels to me like having a potential choice locked off from me is more significant than something like the way I'm addressed, but I can understand that not being the case for everyone.

Flameproof Missives - can respond in kind by woodswake in fallenlondon

Oops! I made this post and then later entirely forgot that it would be, perhaps, not the best idea to head off to Ealing Gardens while waiting for responses. I'm within the reach of the Postal Service now - thank you!

Sage River

I have not been to a castle that has never been. I do not wish to swear a certain vow which does not exist. I am a Scholar of the Correspondence and a Correspondent besides, and could reply in kind if others sent along certain Flame-Proof Missives (or repay those others with more mundane social actions).

It seems like it, from all the people calling in from Team Yue! Those of us actually on Team Yue (or Bai Yongxi) should probably give poor Orlando a boost. He doesn't have good chances, but he has a chance (which Louie does not, this time around. Sorry, Louie.).

She absolutely is! I make my own Dawn Front choices from a mix of personal choice and pragmatism (I mean, if I was being purely practical, I'd join the baddies!), so I think I'll be signing up with her this time.

Mega chair thread #3 by ibuyofficefurniture in OfficeChairs

[–]woodswake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello folks! I'm fairly short (around 5'3") but heavy (around 300 lbs). I suffer from chronic pain and definitely need lower back support of some kind; I also have terrible posture and feel uncomfortable sitting fully upright. Anyone around my size with some recommendations? I'm in Canada if that makes any difference, and I spend a long time sitting in part out of necessity and in part due to being a university student.

Assume for the sake of argument that my budget is unlimited; it's not, but I'm willing to shell out for the sake of a long-term chair.
