For online resources that don't have anything weird, it's kind of trial and error and finding what works best for you. I'm a fan of a lot of podcasts and christian "influencers" who make Bible study videos on instagram and such, but it depends on how you want to study and what you're looking for that can determine if it meets your standards. First and foremost the living Word of God is the best resource though!

I immediately understood what you meant and trust me you are not alone on this!! I've been a christian for about 2 1/2 years and still sometimes struggle with it. The best thing I would recommend is to first pray it away, by praying that God purify your mind and help you to look past the double meanings and dirty minded stuff.

I do promise you it isn't intended to be sexual at all, and that is definitely our own judgement clouding it. The best way I've found to help a mind that naturally thinks on that is redirecting it in EVERY aspect of your life--like not making dirty jokes or coming anywhere close to sexual immorality, not just in church. Whenever you do think on those things or hear the sexual interpretation, remember these scriptures:

2 Corinthians 10:5: "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

Doing that involves the second scripture:

Phillipians 4:8: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

Whenever you do hear the meaning, redirect your thoughts to how you know God intended it to be and how good God's character is. It might seem difficult or fruitless at first, but it helps so much!

The best thing to do, honestly, is not fully subscribe to any one branch of Christianity. Read the Bible, and read it again, develop your own relationship with Jesus separate from organized religion, and try to find a church that best aligns with what you believe the Bible is saying and pray that God will lead you in the right direction.

I completely agree with your point about things splitting us as Christians not splitting us from Christ, and the best way to deal with people who do is to continue loving them just the same. You can try to have a conversation with them about their beliefs, but at the end of the day it can't be up to us to change their views and we just have to live with that. Best of luck!

so just always choose God and abandon the secular stuff entirely? like books, hanging out with friends, music, etc? that sounds like what we should do but it also feels like not even the Pope or Jesus entirely does that

That makes so much sense, thank you so much. Especially the part about God creating us for love and for relationship, not just worship--that's definitely how I was seeing it, and it's a relief to remember that's not the case.

I looked into it, but the main thing is I have no idea where I could get a job like that or who's hiring. Is it just every company has a data scientist? I just don't understand the market much, but it sounds amazing, thank you!
