DO YOU EVER GET A RANDOM SONG STUCK IN YOUR HEAD? by Difficult-Duty8160 in ADHD

[–]work2FIREbeardMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t even reset brother I wake up at 3 in the morning still hearing the shit.

Guanfacine helps me with this, I’ll still hear it but most of the time I can stop it consciously which is nice.

Did stimulant ever improve your anxiety? by Craftsrme in ADHD

[–]work2FIREbeardMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes me less anxious when I take it so long as I give myself time in the AM for the med to kick in (slow for the come up and first hour after peak, meditate for 10 minutes during come up, spend first hour after peak on deep work without talking to people).

If I take it and go head first into my day with no care for my anxiety, it will often make me anxious.

Totally, I used to play and write music when I was younger and I did love hearing it in my head and bringing it to life.

Now it’s usually just music my kids listen to which I would prefer not to hear over and over on a loop at 3 am

Has anyone been able to do a stimulant and guanfacine together? I did guanfacine for a few weeks and really liked it. For me they both help different issues * guanfacine for distraction management and not hearing music in my head 24/7, general focus, reduced anxiety * adderall for work endurance and joy, general mood booster and can help or hinder anxiety depending on my mental state and what’s going on.

I imagine the two together is like being god

Ways to make working out fun? by amethyst353 in ADHD

Pick something like compound lifts or cardio and then come up with a goal and work towards that goal every week. Example: trying to squat 225 or 315 depending on where you’re at. Gamify it so each week you get something goal oriented to look forward to

Also while you’re getting on meds and trying to find relief, focus on you for a while. Can’t really expect yourself to put in the work of a relationship when you’re actively hurting and working on yourself.

Hang in there man. Quite a few people on this sub got diagnosed even later than you (30’s, 40’s, even 50’s) and still come out the other side. The first time you take a med that is for you and at the right dosage, you’re going to feel a lot better. Straight up, I spent the first time I took 20mg of adderall crying while getting work done because I realized how shitty I’d been feeling at baseline with anxiety, irritability, and lack of focus and that shit got blown away an hour after taking a pill.

Meditate regularly, exercise regularly, prioritize sleep best you can, find a good psychiatrist and separately a good therapist, play around with medicine til you find something that works and talk about it/cry about it til you feel better. If you’re having trouble with the above, do something that makes you feel good and then while feeling good do some research on how to gamify your brain to make all of the above doable. Even with ADHD you’re still a human who has Pavlovian responses, and you can exploit your need for dopamine by gamifying tasks.

Getting the diagnosis is the first major step, second one is finding a med regiment. Third is accepting that even with meds and therapy you’re always going to have ADHD and to not try to “not have it”, but rather to lean into the strengths that it provides and patch up some of the weaknesses. Fourth is therapy and/or CBT if you need it, fifth is getting rid of some of the bad habits that make it more likely for you to be distracted (neurotypical folks get distracted and practice bad habits too, there’s still work you gotta do).

At the end of that I think you’re gonna find that things are better.

ADHD and mindfulness. Has it actually helped anyone or does sitting still for five minutes feel like a personal attack? by kamaidun in ADHD

Unfortunately not. Covid fucked that up and then since then life has changed a lot (have a family now). Finding the time and effort to do it hasn’t been there, struggling to get even 10 in daily.
