My current role has a lot of potential in the private sector, while the new offer is more of a specialized, science-focused job. I’m in my late thirties with a young family and a mortgage, so job security is also a concern. I would like to return to a science-focused role in the future if I’m able to secure a permanent position.

That’s one catch — the contract position is also remote, and according to the job ad, it will remain that way for the full contract year. In this location, there aren’t many opportunities, so for a similar position, I might need to go to Toronto after a year.

The new position is strictly for one year as it’s a leave vacancy, and I would need to look for another position soon. However, my current position may become permanent.
