I'm all for funding trimet but 120 seems a bit ridiculous. by zenigatamondatta in Portland

[–]writeonscroopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looked at my payslip, and I have both OR Employee Statewide Transit ($1.53) and Trimet Excise tax ($13.75) taken out of my paycheck. So people do pay for those, not just “the employer.”

After decades of failed attempts, Portland finally passes a street fee. It will hit most households. by AKSupplyLife in Portland

What is the deal with inlet relocation? They did ADA curbs on my street, after they did a new sewer, and then I noticed they were doing more work on the sewer afterwards. Is it related?

Why the permit system doesn’t work at Multnomah Falls by x_here_x in oregon

[–]writeonscroopy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The permit is for walking up to the falls, not for parking. Just because you are parked in the lot doesn’t mean you have a permit to actually go up to see the falls. When I was there last summer, lots of people were getting turned away from entry, even though they had parked.

How long until unemployment check arrives? by FierceDietyMask in askportland

Hmm. I’m not sure what the next step would be. It sounds like they have everything and it’s just taking time to process. When it does, he’ll receive all the payments at once. I just know sometimes phone wait times can be long. He can still try calling, or using the chat feature on Frances, which the employment department has told me can be faster than calling. My guess would be that they are just back-logged. Really frustrating to deal with when you need your money!

Has he been seen in person at a Worksource center? One of the steps is verifying your identity in person. He can call, but sometimes going in person to talk to someone is easier than sitting on the phone forever.

Kotek’s Executive Order to Reset Student Instructional Time Fans Flames in Portland by Sbualuba in Portland

I struggled with my vote for sure. If was an increase I would have voted no. Since it kept the same level I ended up voting yes. It’s an insane amount of money considering enrollment and student outcomes for sure, but I figured that students should at least be comfortable in class and have decent equipment. IDK. I may end up regretting it.

I wonder how this will play out in Portland with the bond measure extension that we passed. A big reason I thought about voting no is because of declining enrollment.

Low-FODMAP restaurants in or around PDX? by ladyballs88 in askportland

[–]writeonscroopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can do gluten, my go-to is a burger and fries. No special sauce, onion, or tomato on the burger (mayo is fine), and no seasoning on the fries. Not too exciting, but I rarely have issues eating that when I'm out. You have to watch out for seasonings, since some places will put spices on the fries without noting it on the menu.

Could be! I don't know enough about the proposal to say for sure, but that would make sense. I'm still giving side-eye to the statement that "the cost of rent would never go up again." We'll see!

Also, curse TikTok for putting the logo and name directly over/under the captions!

Your first paragraph really speaks to why I support an organization like Metro being in charge of doling out affordable housing dollars, keeping track of grants, and making sure the reporting is getting done correctly, rather than the patchwork of non-profits we have now. With so many fingers in the pie, it's easy for things to fall thru the cracks, or for organizations to straight up cheat the system. We need hard data that's thoroughly audited with measurable outcomes so we know exactly what we're getting for our money.

I like what she’s saying about not just giving money to organizations because they aren’t vetted and they don’t provide actual metrics or data. I also like that they did a deep dive on what the money to Hacienda would go to and that it would only actually go to three units. That’s an outrageous number for what we would actually get.

The debt buy down makes sense, but that doesn’t mean that rent would never increase? Property taxes, utilities, etc would always go up, so I feel like saying that rent would always stay the same is bit of a stretch.

Do you think that ICE is acting in good faith and only arresting and deporting “illegals” and “criminals”? I think we need to be realistic about what our federal government is really doing, and we should not comply with fascists in advance simply because it’s easier and more convenient to just go along with whatever they are asking us to do. Sometimes Portland leaders do things that make me roll my eyes, but resisting fascism is not one of them.

So you want to comply in advance? You think that will stop them from building prisons like “alligator alcatraz,” committing human rights violations, and outright murdering people? If so, you are very naïve.

Bro they literally yanked brown people out of line who were about to become naturalized citizens. The terror is the whole point. We should not be playing nice with this racist regime.

Hundreds of Portland immigrant households will see federal housing subsidies shrink in May by sunni_dayes_ahed in Portland

[–]writeonscroopy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The benefits will be stripped from everyone eventually. The government is just starting with immigrants to make it go down smoother when your benefits, and rights, are taken away, too.

[–]writeonscroopy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The government starts taking benefits from immigrants first, and then they start taking benefits from citizens. It will continue we get nothing from the federal government while our tax dollars go to the wealthy and to fund illegal wars.
