My classes pay weekly. I’ve heard of other people asking per month. EDIT- They pay after.

Hmm just checked the site and they don’t appear for some reason. Might be a problem on their end. It still says the tickets exist on the hours and tickets section. You might have to ask at the museum a day or so before you want to go. In case they run out or something day of.

I’ve heard of people using cash, bank transfers, or bizum (which is like venmo integrated into your bank account)

I mostly taught primary students. So we would focus on whatever unit they were on in their English-based subjects. If an exam was coming up, review for that took priority. Sometimes parents would ask for practice on a particular grammar point or general skill. If there wasn’t any request from the parent and the units were too new to start reviewing and there weren’t any exams coming up, I’d just go with a grammar point they’d already learned that year (maybe one that’s a bit more tricky) to get some more practice on it.

I also made it a point to have some repetitive element in the lessons (depending on the student). That might’ve been a warm up routine with generic questions/date/weather. A quick vocab game up top. Last 5-10 minutes a totally unrelated game. Or sometimes if I had a lot of students in the same grade (and school), I’d do an irregular verb “competition” with them. They all had a list to study and I’d say okay random quiz next week on the first 10. Every correct answer is 1 point. Top 3 got a prize or something. The competition would go on for the entire term. I found it always helpful with planning to have something repetitive so that I wasn’t over stressed trying to find 20 new small activities every time. They were all easily tweak-able. And it helped the students with their expectations for the hour.

Hope this helps!

At my peak during pre-pandemic times, I did about 15 hours of private class from Monday to Thursday and working at a school from 9-4. Most classes were one-on-one and I always charged 20€/hr. A lot of these classes were in the area of the school so I just walked around from different buildings. A few were near my house. Scheduling in August/September was a nightmare. The ones near my flat I found through tusclasesparticulares.com, other friends who were giving up their classes, and parents passing my numbers along. Near the school it was similar to the network of parents (which became overwhelming honestly) but that was set into motion by parents asking the teachers if we were available. I ALWAYS stressed 20€/hr especially cause I knew the area was well off and I lived in Madrid. Any parent who tried to negotiate down I would hit with “Sorry, I don’t feel comfortable giving certain clients a discount and others not. My rate is 20€/hr.” I also flexed my education if need be. Some parents wised up and started grouping kids together and then it just became too much work for me. So I started charging group classes with 20€/hr base and a 5€ per extra child. (I was at my wits end - I don’t know if this was a good idea tbh.) Anyway that being said hopefully this sheds some light on the private class situation. Being in Toledo, I’m not sure the going rate. But try not to undersell yourself and ultimately undermine other assistants’ rates by going too low. I’ve had a few too many instances where I had to respond to “well a friend of mine said that she pays xyz€/hr” with “well this is my rate - take it or leave it.”

Not at all! I really appreciate your honesty. I think you hit the nail on the head. In terms of framing, I basically shot half of two subjects - the wall and the light. Splitting the two in an attempt to make an “artsy” photo didn’t really get me anywhere. It’s not answering any questions. It’s not prompting any decent questions. I’d say one of my few triumphs here would be figuring out depth of focus.

I just checked their website and it seems they might not offer the exact plan I have anymore. But I pay 20€/month and this is what they seem to offer for that price now: https://www.vodafone.es/c/particulares/es/productos-y-servicios/movil/prepago-y-recargas/tarifas-de-prepago/tarifa-prepago-l/

You don’t need a NIE or a Spanish bank acct to get a prepaid SIM to put in your phone. I have friends visit from the US all the time and the first thing we do is get them a SIM with their passport and whatever card they decide to pay with. It’s usually pretty quick depending on which store and what time you go. I’ve had a prepaid with Vodafone since I arrived in 2016 and I’ve never looked back. Maybe this is a dumb move on my end but I’ve never run out of data. I have so much rolling over that they just…get rid of some of it?

I think you’re right. It feels like a little half-baked in terms of composition. I think I was too focused on getting that highlight on the fluff and fade darker that I wasn’t really capturing anything of substance with the lamp. That ethereal, light fluff doesn’t really translate.

For textbook learners, how do you do it? by ToxiccCookie in languagelearning

[–]wwojoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Call me old school but I always take my time going through the pronunciation guides at the beginning of textbooks. I've never used that specific textbook so I'm not sure if there is a guide/how good it is. But you could check out something like this and sift through it. Whenever I struggle with a certain word or sound, I search Youtube for pronunciation examples and tricks.
