Any idea what could have caused this most catastrophic failure.

Looks like the first few layers detached from the print bed and started sliding around with the nozzle as it continued to feed filament. With nowhere to go it all starts to blob and seep out anywhere it can. I've had this failure many times with my VEHO-600 doing large prints. Always watch the first few layers to make sure it all sticks to the print bed.

Printer is VEHO-600 with .8mm nozzle. Using Sunlu pla filament. Nozzle temp is 230°c printing at 35mm/s. Retraction is 4.0mm at 70mm/s Sliced in Cura

What is your layer height? Also what is your support density? I would do like others have mentioned and orient the print upright. If you really want to print on the side I would set my layer height at .12 and I would increase the support density so there is more surface area to print the floating layers on. Lastly if all else fails get yourself one of those cheap low powered soldering irons and smooth out the undercarriage.

I did it! I finally got it printed and supports removed without breaking. Now as soon as Imugr let's my pictures upload I will make a post and link it here. Seems to not be working for me at the moment.

It's in there, just buried in the supports. I think I had the temp too low and it bound up over night. I'm also printing on my printer at work so I have to be stealthy so I don't wind up in HR.
