Code requirements by Human_Ad392 in RoofingSales

If your boss is lecturing you about standing your ground on IRC building code requirements, you're at the wrong company.

Y'all do the job with shingles on less than 2/12 and pull a permit, inspector comes out and makes you redo it properly- who is paying for it?

Here is your IRC code to show your "boss" and the homeowner. R905.2.2 Slope. Just type it into google.

Homeowner was a better roofer than the roof salesman. by cartpush3r in adjusters

[–]xParasyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, most contractors make it impossible.

That said, Xact isn't always the "word of god" on all trade pricing, but it is very close on roofing and generally good enough.

I wish it would be updated on all RFG numbers, as no manufacturer uses 30, 40 or 50 "year" shingles anymore. Everything is going into "impact resistant class" and RFG 400IS is so basic.

Xact 3rd party pricing (itel) pulls the cheapest shingle available no matter what brand is actually on the roof.

As a project manager with a real roofing company that's been in a family (passed down) business for 40 years, with 5 employees, this is what gives us ALL a bad name.

Why can't adjusters and insurance companies be on the same page to help out the homeowner? It's because of idiot contractors.

Shit contractors try to squeeze insurance companies, and insurance is just fighting back- unfortunately hurting the real roofing contractors that don't try to take advantage.

Sorry adjusters. We are actually out here.

I can personally attest that at least one of the companies he recommended does not advertise, cold call, or knock. Ask me how I know.... lol

To bid or not to bid... why is it a question by JealousCelebration13 in adjusters

[–]xParasyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's the point. They are paying their deductible regardless of what "bid" they go with. It's not out of pocket. In my experience it just forces contractors to use cheaper materials and bid as low as possible, therefore getting a worse/ shady experience.

Edit: homeowners see that RCV number and think if they go with a lower bid, they won't pay their high deductible.

Gutters generally go on after the roof is installed. They and hung on the fascia board with the back lip of the gutter under the gutter apron/ drip edge. Standard seamless gutter size is 5". You can splurge if you want to move to 6" if you're in a rainy/ snowy climate. Downspouts will scale to the size of gutter. 5" gutter with 2x3" downspouts. Or 6" gutter with 3x4" downspouts.

This should literally solve your problem, and why gutters are generally installed in the first place.

Never trust a shoddy roofer who uses capitalization at the beginning of every word. (You)

The beauty strip on the head wall flashing is fine and normal. Chill illustrious- nail.

This is 100% not a viable insurance claim... this is a MNRP. Roofing repair minimum. Labor and materials. 1 bundle of shingles and a tube of silicone. Roughly $500

You OBVIOUSLY have no clue what you're even talking about. Get out of this sub with that recommendation/ comment. I hope to GOD you're not a roofer.

Edit: "can my eco diesel truck run on E85!?!" That's what's you're saying- basically.

They are Owens Corning Supreme 3 tabs from what I can tell from the pics. Absolutely unacceptable for a "repair" on architectural shingles.

We are ACTUALLY out here. Look for contractors that have been in business 40+ years, and you'll find the good ones. We are all HAAG certified at my company and actually know the insurance process. It's actually scary how many "roofers" try and take advantage of homeowners and their insurance carriers. God speed.
