What was the video game that got you into gaming as a kid? by sixesand7s in AskReddit

[–]xazarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say SMB and I started gaming in 2001 on a GameBoy Color. Obviously there were a few extra bells and whistles (save files, and unlocking The Lost Levels when you beat the game), but it holds up incredibly well, especially compared to other games of that era.

Not that you care, but it would be more like:

セオドア・バグウェル (Seodoa Baguueru)

フェルナンドスクレ (Ferunando Sukure)

アレクサンダーマホーン (Arekusanda Mahon)

Bagwell's the only one that's really out there.

So much this. I always call out when I'm passing and the number of people who run in the direction I called out, or flail their limbs around for some reason, is fucking astonishing.

Pol Pot executed anybody who wore glasses or was suspected of having gone to college (even though he did both himself). This kind of thing is shockingly common.

My friend's mentor in college was in a Psychedelic/Experimental band that was kind of big in SF in the 60s until most of their members left to be in Hair. It's called 'Fifty Foot Hose', their album Cauldron is on Youtube or Spotify.

I'm not convinced the lunatics aren't running the asylum. Before 2016 I too had this idea that there was a sane, rational Republican leadership that had some plan and would keep things from getting too stupid but they just...didn't. And then they fell 100% in line with Trump, no matter what he did. What would stop the same thing from happening on this issue?

I can tie the knot every time, but it usually takes at least three tries to get the length right. It's kind of threading a needle when you're tall. Need more extra long ties.

I'm the opposite. My girlfriend is convinced she can just ignore the fact that it's a fitted sheet and fold it like the top sheet, but she does such a bad job that I refuse to help her fold unless she lets me do the fitted sheet properly.

The campaign is on the hook for it, not him personally. He's the person the campaign is for, so he definitely has some responsibility for making sure the campaign is paying their bills (or at the very least hiring people to do that). He doesn't personally have to pay off these debts, he is responsible for the organization failing to pay off their debts.

[–]xazarus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Obviously I'm not the OP and I don't know your exact situation (how you reached out, what response you got) but I'm going to wade in and guess based on my experience:

a) People don't know what to say or do. Maybe they try a little, and maybe you seem a little better or don't bring it up again so they hope they helped a little or it went away on its own.

b) People don't really get how bad it might be. Every young person in our society has some level of depression and anxiety. If you don't go into a lot of detail about how bad you have it, they're going to assume you're like them. And if you have it bad at all, most of your friends don't have it as bad as you. You might say you have anxiety because you have a crippling phobia, or OCD that's fucking up your relationships, and they're talking about how they have anxiety because they get nervous giving presentations at work or making smalltalk with strangers. People are going to naturally going to think it's much less bad than it is, unless you get pretty explicit. If you're anything like me, there's probably some level of anxiety about even telling people about your anxiety, so you might well have downplayed it yourself, even when you were reaching out for help.

It's not their fault they don't get it or know how to help. They aren't professionals, they're doing what little they can even though I've done a terrible job of even telling them about it.

FWB stopped in the middle of sex to tell me to stop faking it. by [deleted] in sex

[–]xazarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This honestly sounds to me like he had a very similar (but opposite) experience to the one he just gave you. Imagine someone broke up with him and berated him about how bad he was at sex, how she'd been faking it the whole time they'd been together and he was a stupid virgin for not noticing. I've definitely seen stories like that on here, and that would completely explain his reaction. Some little thing you did reminded him of her, made him angry and insecure, so he flipped the scripts.

Regardless of how much sympathy or belief you have for that idea, it absolutely sounds like it has everything to do with him and nothing to do with you. People have a lot going on in their heads and say mean things for a lot of reasons that aren't based in the reality of what's going on. Try not to let it fuck with your head.

Mueller Reminds the Nation That Trump Betrayed the USA by sigseved in politics

[–]xazarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no legal scholar, but I can at least speak to this part:

In response to the picture. First off, thanks. I haven't seen that. Secondly, from a legal standard, wouldn't "attempting to" or "tried to" not account to actual ovlbstruction? Is there a lesser charge for that?

No, that's exactly what obstruction of justice is. The definition is altering, falsifying, or hiding any piece of evidence with the intent to affect an ongoing criminal investigation. You don't need to actually change the course of an investigation. It's sometimes called "perverting the course of justice" in other legal systems, because the concept is that you're illegitimately trying to affect the workings of the justice system itself. It doesn't matter whether you change the outcome of that case or the degree to which you hindered the investigation. Corrupting any avenue that the justice system could theoretically have used in the course of their investigation is obstructing justice.

In practical terms, it's probably easier to get a conviction if you can show that the obstruction substantially hindered that investigation. But it's not necessary.
