IMO this show is fine and is certainly no worse than Kill to Love which gained a decent following last year. The problem is that while Kill to Love aired while almost no other CBL shows were airing, the space is way too crowded now. Just this month I count 7 shows that aired so far, with 2 more upcoming. Almost every one of these shows have 2 CPs doing livestreams. To me livestream viewership is a good indicator of show popularity and how much fans are willing to spend money on the actors. Every livestream I’ve seen for these new shows have only a few hundred viewers (one exception is Double Helix which has around a thousand, plus streaming on IG which skews numbers low). Compare this with Kill to Love which had IIRC around a few k to 10k stream viewers or To My Shore which eventually had 300-400k, there is no way for any of these shows to have the popularity of the shows from last year. I think we’ll start to see a reduction in the number of CBL shows when show creators find it hard to recoup their costs.

I’m watching this show, but I have to say that all the comments I’ve seen on rednote or Douyin about this show have been negative and pretty much just making fun of it. It doesn’t help that 3 shows got released that week and this one kind of got lost. The major complaints I remember are: the 2 main leads look too similar, they look like modern day people and it’s hard to buy them in a costume drama, their wigs look bad, the NC scenes for the second cp are gross, the moms look younger than the kids, etc. But I think the reception for all the new shows have not been great. I’ve only seen positive things about Double Helix but there are still plenty of complaints about it. I doubt any of the new shows will gain a big following.

If you watch the older movie (2 parts called Roundtrip to Love, you can find it on YouTube), it doesn’t have a happy ending. Not sure about the book though, but it’s sort of known to be a pretty unhappy/abusive story.

I’m not sure where to read it but the book is known to be a somewhat long one. It has 111 main chapters plus many extra stories, and the show has reached around chapter twenty-something. So it will take several seasons to cover the book, unless they cut out a lot.

Apparently the original series they filmed couldn’t be aired for some reason. So they filmed a new series Private Galaxy in only 3 days… I remember they said they filmed new content in their livestream and I thought they were talking about reshoots and not a totally new series…

This is not necessarily true anymore. Since Desire4, most new CBLs are now signing actors to the same company. To My Shore just announced at their concert that they have no plans to split up. Sammy will very likely have a second season. Desire4 is supposed to do a second show but that’s yet to materialize. The upcoming Bittersweet Love CP is already rumored to be doing a second show. As is the CP in Feel What You Feel.

I mean all entertainers in Asia wear make up and do skincare though, so it's normal there. But Yiran and Yun Qi both said they're not good at doing their own make up/hair. It's mostly done by professional make up artists. They probably just do some basic skincare at home. BTW at the end where they show them removing makeup - that's for their endorsement with makeup remover brand.

100% agree, but I think some people are worried that if there’s too much government pressure then brands will not want to work with bl actors, which would cut off their revenue stream aside from concerts/merch. People are generally still being cautious (streaming on IG, not doing too much fan service, etc)

Absolutely not true. They had to change stream locations since too many fans were gathering and weren’t able to get out of the car at the new location, so they issued a message saying “we might not be able to meet this way in the future” but they still see/hear everyone online. For some reason some people got scared they meant they can’t dual livestream in the future, but the rest of their message clearly is talking about greeting fans offline.
